1. Simpson was good today, possibly our best player, never stopped running, surely the goals will start going in soon. 2. Though it is endemic today's game, why do we time waste so much - particularly when we are only one goal up. Millwall were poor and we should have tried to improve our goals for ratio. 3. Why do grounds put the sprinklers on before a game, players are then constantly slipping. 4. Hobbs should be really be starting ahead of Faye and Bruce. 5. Stockdale is a top keeper - brings confidence all-round and to our defence. UTT !
7. Bruce Jnr shouldn't be starting in CM ahead of Evans, Cairney and Olofinjana. Unless I'm missing something.
I think Bruce has been very good this season, regarding prozzy i think last week against Barnsley was his best game but i think Koren plays better with Simpson because he is quicker, his movement is better and i really do think both would benefit from another forward with good movement because lets not forget Koren is really a midfield player. No wonder Bruce said he might go in for another forward on loan
I would guess that Steve Bruce knows slightly more about the strength of his squad then any of the keyboard managers who post on here.
Can't comment on today but Evans has been a bit below par recently and Cairney and Oli haven't really pushed their case for inclusion in the team Bruce is generally solid and reliable if not spectacular We are in a great position at the start of feb
I think you are missing something. SB picked a team to win a fairly brutal game against a big physical side, and he got it right. Cairney, Olofinjana and even Evans wouldn't have been able to perform that role today in my opinion.
8. Fully expect to see both of the new Egyptians to play against Brighton - With at least one starting. (bar injuries)
9. Trust SB to pick the best possible team he can to win the match - he's not here to lose games and make sure his son plays despite what some seem to think
Would you? So who would you drop? They've just won away at one of the most intimidating grounds in english football.. And we don't know if the two Egyptians are even match fit yet? You're more likely to see one or the other on the bench.
I was very confused by the selection until I saw the way that Millwall played. Like you say, big, physical and our boys seemed to be bullied off the ball a lot. Sometimes fairly and sometimes not. The main one that stood out was the #6 (Trotter). Bruce may have been a tactical selection to match up against him.
It's quite interesting to note the comments on the Leicester board about their game at Millwall. They lost and most put it down to the fact that they were "bullied" by Millwall. Obviously Steve Bruce anticipated this and made his team selection to cope with a more physical game - it obviously worked and was a good tactical decision. It's also interesting to look at some of the comments on the Leicester board about our team today - mostly critical of course and poking fun at the choice of a line up that provided a strong defence against a physical team.
What a contrast next weekend will be! I agree though, I think it would be difficult to drop anybody after such a good result, but I also reckon that Hobbs should be one of the first names on the team sheet.
So why on earth is Hobbs not playing? Faye also played half his career in defensive midfield to, so you could easily slot Hobbs and Faye in there.
That takes the pressure off us for next week with a win at the New Dump. Even if we lose it's 3 points from two tough away games. I think at the end of this season we may end up with more points gained away than at home, as teams come here to frustrate us, but are obliged to take us on at at their place and we get more space to play our game. I'll take a draw next week obviously but maybe a win isn't such a big ask as it seemed a few weeks back when BHA were flying.
On RH after the game S Bruce said he had played Alex in that position to boost the physicality. Also said he knows he is not used to that position and by the end he was "running like his mother". Got to like Steve's personality and the things he says.
That fella Trotter was like a man mountain, twice the size of our lads, bet he has steak and three shredded wheat for breakfast!
