I really don't see what Obertan offers that Routledge never? I don't see how we have moved forward in that position over the last 2 years infact we have got worse (I'd rather have Barton)!!

Now I'm in no way blaming him for todays result, far from it, the defence was obviously the main issue!

But I'm just frustrated at him always getting picked, like routledge hes pacey and can occasionally beat his man but beyond that he offers nothing else, his final ball is awful and he rarely tracks back...

    Get him out the team!!!

He just need to ****ing go full steam ahead sometimes. To be fair we don't seem to attack in numers so what can he do. I think our tactics were to defensice today but **** it we all knew we were ****ed when we read the team sheet.

Nah Obertan is better than Routledge. Obertans two enormous problems are decision making & end product. He really can take on players when he wants to, as he showed today when he skinned about 5 Norwich players en route to their box. But he just has no clue when to pass, who to pass to or even how to pass properly. Very frustrating.

The only thing he has on his side is pace. And he doesn't seem to want to use it. He also does Routledge's trick of running across the pich instead of going down the line and doing something productive.

But routledge could beat a few players too, neither have the final product.. I dont understand how you can be a premier league winger if you can't even cross, shouldn't that be atleast the minimum?

Absolutely. I'm not defending Obertan here, I just think Routledge was worse.

Routledge is capable of destroying Championship centre backs. Obertan proved today he cant.

I like it how when he was out injured everyone was saying we really miss him and now when he is back everyone is saying he is **** and even worse than ****ing Routledge.

He beat them a few times in fairness, his biggest problem is that he has no idea what the **** to do when he has the ball so he got himself into a situation where he was forced to try take them on so many times that it became comical and thus more noticable. I don't think I've yelled "PASS IT YOU ****" so many times in one game <laugh>. Maybe I'm remembering Routledge in a bad light but I'm struggling to remember thinking he was any better than what we have now.

Agree with this, he provides an outlet for us to relieve pressure off our defense. We still need somebody better though.

I rated Routledge a bit and would say him and Obertan are more or less even. If Marveaux doesn't get over him injury problems we really need a new RW, Obertan is an impact sub with killer pace, he can disrupt and put pressure on but he's not the sort of player who can deliver over 90 minutes.

I saw no need for Routledge to go in the first place - he must have clashed with Pardew at some point because he was out on loan to QPR in next to no time.

Is Obertan any better than Routledge?

Not really, but he's a player that Pardew has bought and so will continue to get picked.
