Going to see him at O2 on Sunday as a birthday present for my X wife, we still get on. Would like to know some where to go for a meal and a beer (not romantic). Any suggestions?

The Big Easy (grill and lobster shack) and/or Sports Bar in the Crossrail station Canary Wharf - you're one stop from North Greenwich there. There's a few other places to eat there as well - likely to be less busier than the dome.
