He seems to think he would, if it weren't for his 'behavioural problems':

"On ability I walk into the squad, on behaviour I don't"

He had a bit of a dig Roy Hodgson's squad too:

"If (Jordan) Henderson got in, any Englishman not currently in the squad has to feel aggrieved. Yes, I wish I was there, but I'm not"

"Everyone's thinking it, I'll say it: Liverpool have had an horrific season and have six players in our Euro squad. What chance do we have? (The manager should) Pick on form"

"How (Grant) Holt, (Micah) Richards, (Michael) Carrick, (Rio) Ferdinand, (Leon) Osman, (Daniel) Sturridge, etc never got involved is a travesty"

Does anyone agree, either with his assessment of his own ability or of the squad? I do, on both counts.

He's a stupid prick who's so far up his own arse he could lick his own prostate, he's ****, no way would he ever walk into the England team, even if all 23 in the Euros now where murdered by the racist fans, his attitude is what actually gains him attention, if it wasn't for his behaviour no one would care or notice him at all because he's ****, I feel sorry for his son, having a dad like that would cause serious bullying issues for him, poor kid

He might have got in a few years back but not anymore, no wonder he's not popular making comments about his fellow pros like that. He's right about Micah Richards but the other players he mentioned are open to questions, Grant Holt is a nice lad but not an international footballer, Osman is underrated but at 29 not really one for the future, Ferdinand has had his time, Carrick- I'd have took him but can see why Hodgson didn't, Sturridge is behind the strikers picked. I think the likes of him and Ferdinand who write complete bollocks on Twitter are going to have a great time in the next few weeks if we don't perform, fingers crossed the lads do well so that these cocos keep their traps shut.

I'm sorry but that's a very vague answer, do you agree with him or not?

Agree with you about Holt, disagree with you about Osman, agree with you about Ferdinand, agree with you about Carrick, think you couldn't be more wrong about Sturridge.

I think what he meant is that he could get in the England squad as it is now if he was controversy free, but that there are a number of players who also would, obviously the ones he mentioned. I would agree that, if he had not had one bit of controversy in his whole career, this might be the case, but that's so hard to imagine there's no point <laugh>

Sturridge is one for the future, it's a shame they couldn't take a couple more players in the squads as him, Johnson and Richards are very unfortunate. Am not going to knock Hodgson whatever happens but you do get the feeling the likes of Ferdinand and Barton will be taking pot-shots at the manager and unfortunately the 'Arry friendly southern media will be giving them plenty of print space.

I was thinking about this the other day whilst spring cleaning.

I don't think he's international class, but neither's Jordan Henderson, so yeah I think he could get in the squad.

He's paying the price though for being a **** who can't be trusted not to get sent off, and for feeling the need to criticise current England players publicly, and often. No matter how right he was about Gareth Barry and players writing autobiographies, you just gotta bite your lip sometimes.

Fact is, if he got his head down, didn't **** about and just got on with playing, he'd stand a real chance.

I always think of Barton as a poor mans Michael Carrick (Or a rich mans Richard Sneekes) He's a steady midfielder, But I wouldn't pick him for england regardless of is disciplinary record. He is overrated IMO. Although I do agree with his comments about squad selection.
With 6 liverpool players in the squad we could be the only team to finish 8th in a group of 4. I'm fully with Hodgson on dropping Rio but I'd have much rather had Micah Richards in the squad.
It would be nice to see at least a few players who have had fantastic seasons selected (Such as Lambert), But as we have seen with the Ferdinand saga as soon as a big name is dropped the manager gets slated.

Richards was told to be on stand by & said no, same with Carrick, he had to choose between Rio & Terry, Sturridge is a mystery, I think he should have been taken as back up to Rooney, certainly one of the best England strikers. I think Roy has missed a trick here, no-ones expecting anything, it's not a friendly game, why not get rid of the old guard & take the kids that will be the main part of qualification for the World Cup. Pearce was going in the right direction when we played Holland by trying out the U21's.

If anyone in a normal job tweeted the kind of crap that Barton, Ferdinand etc. do that person would lose their job and be unemployable by anyone else in the industry. No I don't agree with either his assessment or himself or the squad. It's just another indicator that like so many "professional" footballers, he's an overgrown kid with too many toys. He needs to grow up.

He's a dickhead, but he's a better footballer than Henderson.

Over the years I can't say any, even slightly controversial English players ever getting in the England team no matter how talented. Even when one or two have slipped through they haven't lasted for long. Rodney Marsh and Tony Currie both very talented but wayward players only made brief appearances, and the oddity here is Peter Shilton although I'm not sure if he was still playing for England when he crashed his Jag. Stan Bowles was another player who could turn a game in an instance with a pass, but if you believe rumours he couldn't pass a bookies, like another England player of the past Alan Hudson. I'm sure there are many more players England have missed out on because of this 'weeding out' process, not sure if other nations have the same policy.

I'm not sure if he'd walk into the England squad. Depends how clumsy he is.

He's an utter cock, but is better than Henderson, would probarbly do a better job at right back than Kelly, would prob contribute more at left wing than Downing and would in all likelihood do a better job than the fridge freezer (Carroll) up front
