http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news...255?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed HULL City owner Assem Allam is donating £1m to an appeal set up to help improve the treatment of medical conditions such as cancer and heart disease. The windfall will go towards completing the Daisy Appeal to raise funds for the PET-CT Scanning Centre, which is being built at Castle Hill Hospital and is due to open in April. The latest donation brings Dr Allamâs total contributions to the appeal to £1.6m - but the charity still needs to raise a further £2m to buy a cyclotron and radio-lab facilities that will complement the PET-CT scanner. The charityâs founder, Prof Nick Stafford, said: âThis latest contribution is incredibly generous and means we can deliver the scanning centre on time, which is great news for local people. âCurrently, this region is served by a mobile scanner which visits just twice a week so to have a permanent and truly world-class facility at Castle Hill will, I believe, have a hugely positive effect on the health of the region.â Dr Allam added: âThe Daisy Appeal is bringing to the people of Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire the promise of better health and that is the most important thing there is.â Prof Stafford maintained that all contributions to the appeal are welcome, no matter how large or small and stressed âeveryone will be touched by cancer, heart disease and dementia at some point in their livesâ.
Well done Mr Allam. A generous gesture which could well save a lot of local lives, but I doubt he will get the credit he deserves on here.
Credit from me. From a PR perspective, it shows he seems to be learning to be a little more cunning with his timing and media image.
one day he will learn to give without the need to blast it all over the press - strange how it happens just when he needs a little help from the FA
Top gesture. It's important that gestures such as this get as much exposure as possible. As the main tabloids don't often paint him in the nicest of lights.
Suspect he will be ramping this up in the coming weeks. Step forward in the HDM Dr John Buttrick of the Hull Children's Univeristy, Les Hare of NF, some Hull Univ bod, all testifying how he has made a difference with his generosity.
In a football/business sense yes. Hasn't he also donated a sum to Hull Uni? Or have I made that up? Can't remember.
I couldn't care less if he has done for this publicity, £1m is £1m! If it goes some way to improving treatment for those with Cancer and Heart disease then I am all for his generosity.
I've been a patient of professor Stafford, top bloke, and as any one of us could be helped medically by Mr. Allam's generosity in this matter I'm happy to give him my thanks for his gift. Each thread to its own.
My old boy died of cancer just over a year ago. From being diagnosed to passing away was 4 weeks. He was on the NHS waiting list for a CT scan but in the end he ended up having to go private. He was a proud man and wouldn't let his children pay for the scan, which with consultation cost him around £1500. He was far from wealthy so that was a fair bit to him and my Mum. In the end an earlier scan wouldn't have made that much difference, his cancer was too far gone. That was his story but a lot of people will be saved by early detection. If a local permanent scanner had been available I can tell you from experience non of his family nor the old boy himself would have been bothered if it had Assam Allams or anyones's else's face painted all over it. The fact the person who donated the money for the thing got a bit of publicity wouldn't have even registered. This is a life saving bit of kit and those who need it have a lot on their plate, some things are more important than moaning and bitching about the motives behind why it was donated. That's if there are any. Let's not let this thread descend into a slagging match and another Allam bashing session because what he's done is commendable. Pure and simple.
I am a member of CTWD and i would like to state how i think this is a brilliant gesture, who cares why he did it, he still donated a huge sum of money to charity, i am pretty sure the charity don't care why he did it and neither did i. Can you stop judging the whole group by one or two people please.
This exactly ^ Gutted that anyone would think it was ok to use Doctor Allams kind gesture, in a point scoring exercise . So desperate, so sad.
You are somewhat naive if you think there is no hidden agenda to this. I shall continue to point these things out to the 'less worldly' on here. You'll thank me for it one day and know I was right.
Because it show a level of cunning, cynicism and pre meditation that is disturbing to people who care about HCFC. If you are a cancer sufferer who doesn't have any interest in HCFC, it won't matter a jot.
