New drama on Tommy's life on on Monday night at 9 itv 1. "An ITV drama about comic Tommy Cooper is set to shock millions of his fans by portraying a secret dark side of domestic violence. The two-hour film shows the comedian making the nation roar with laughter while hiding a turbulent personal life including being a woman beater and an alcoholic. In one scene Tommy punches his wife Gwen in the street. The drama â featuring Shameless star David Threlfall as the comic who was one of Britainâs biggest names in the 1970s â also concentrates on Tommyâs 17-year affair with his personal assistant Mary Kay. In the film being screened on Easter Monday, Mary ends up with a black eye as she attempts to take the sloshed comic home from a pub. Producers decided to include the distressing scenes after Mary and her son talked to them about the late starâs violent streak. Not sure why they need to do this myself. Why didnt they get Russ Abbott to play him either, he's been playing him all his life.

"An ITV drama about comic Tommy Cooper is set to shock millions of his fans by portraying a secret dark side of domestic violence." To be fair, it's only a secret if you don't know anything about Tommy Cooper. I'll probably watch it, but the clip I saw looked terrible, so I'm not expecting much.
ITV drama… That’s enough to make me not watch. Apart from sport (which they also generally present poorly) what’s the last decent thing ITV have done or been involved in? Spitting Image? World In Action?
