Wonder how they feel now? Surely he has vindicated his role at the club, I'd say there is about a 10% chance they'll go down and the much mocked owners actually deserve some credit.
Fair play to the guy, I understood the protests after reading the fans concerns but he must have balls of steel to keep his calm and turn things around.
I felt sorry for him when he was getting all the abuse, couldn't have made his job very easy. Even last night on 5 live there was a Blackburn fan nip picking about substitutions Kean made despite winning a '6 pointer'. I think they'll stay up, out of the bottom 5 they've showed more sign of form and getting out of it. I think Wolves will go down and can see Wigan joining them. That leaves Bolton and the Dramas for the last spot, and despite Bolton winning yesterday I don't think there anywhere near out of the woods yet but the Dramas have both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs still to play so have a tough run in.
I remember reading an article that suggested that one of the things that kept him in a job was that the chairman insisted that the manager made a monthly visit to discuss the club. This involved a 13-14hour bus, plane and coach trek, have the meeting and then turn round to go straight back home. It was argued that other managers seemed reluctant to take such a commitment and interference.
I agree that the treatment of Steve Kean has been very harsh, and he has done a decent job (considering the situation). However, if the owners didn't sack Big Sam, then there would have been no danger of relegation over the past two seasons anyway.
I'm currently eating a slice of humble pie. I quite regularly exclaimed how **** he was earlier in the season. To be fair, he did look like a dead man walking. He looked like a joker. But, sure enough, to prove once again how I know **** all, he has overseen their rise from the bottom. Such a big win yesterday. They have a decent squad really so I think will stay up, and I think they'll do it before the final day. So yeah, looks like I was wrong.
How can anyone claim he is a good manager? He turned a club who where in the top half into a side that are fighting relagation. Just because they are now staying up does not make him a good manager. That squad is easily capable of staying up and should easily be 12th+. The only reason the owners did not sack him is because he is the only one who knows anything about football.
Understand what you're saying there, fair point. He does deserve credit though for salvaging the season in what seemed like impossible circumstances. It was ****ing brutal. Showed some character and thick skin.
they did the right thing sticking with him, wolves look even stupider now getting rid of MM and putting Terry Connor in, pointless move.... too many people look at sunderland, and think thats the way to do it, trouble is there aint ,many martin o neills waiting in the wings... for every o neill, theres 10 iain dowies...
I didn't think Kean would pull it off, he seemed to have so many of the fans against him, that I thought it was an impossible task. He's got some balls, that's for sure and he's ended up making the Blackburn fans look fairly shabby.
I think the Blackburn fans have made themselves look fairly shabby. I thought their behaviour even before Blackburn picked up was poor, they gave Keith Andrews the same treatment as Kean too.
But Allardyce would still be poisoning the PL with his horrible style. I always liked Kean, just the things he say always seem to make sense and he always comes across really positively. With some managers you listen to their interviews and just think "WTF?!" This shows how fickle football fans are at times. I pointed this out a few weeks ago but basically everyone thinks a teams current form will last forever. A few weeks ago Blackburn were definitely going down now they're deifnitely staying up. We will definitely draw every game from now on, forever and Reading will keep winning.
TBF, he is ****. With their squad, they shouldn't be in the mix anyway, and I read in FourFourTwo I think that Kean's substitutions have made the least amount of impact in the Premiership. I do think they will stay up though.
