London finally realises what we in the regions have had to put up with for years!! If you ve time most of what Danny Baker says in the following edited rant for 47 mins is so relevant to ourselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E75YDB6Q5BI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Danny couldn't be any more true. I spent a morning with Chris Evans and his team at Radio 2. His old producer Hells Bells is actually from Anlaby. The Beeb are now focusing on audience demographics rather than quality broadcast content. Having said that I'm glad Chris Moyles got the cut!
these days the BBC is an appalling shadow of its former self . OK it has always censored which has always infuriated me - as we live in ahem a democracy , but today the BBCs investigative journalism is at be college level . I will say that in the middle east ,South America and North&eastern Africa , the BBC seem to still be applying all what was deemed good in journalism , elsewhere for the most part they are sloppy plagiarists , and not very good ones .
....and 'locally', to paraphrase Danny Baker, we all need a bunch of amateurs (cough a certain sports presenter for example) to tell us that the drains are blocked in Burkleby near Louth, rather than listening to quality, relevant and entertaining original content with a real 'local' emphasis. This was abandoned regionally a long time since, so sorry Danny, whom I admire immensely, but welcome to our world. London's loss will be unfortunately be commercial radios gain.
Is that just because we know what they're saying here is bollocks and we don't know any different about elsewhere though?
having lived and worked in the middle east for few years, I know that the BBC do no more than allowed by the corrupt regimes that allow them to stay, and indeed the UK government that supports them!
They change the news here to suit the audience here anyway. I still can't get over how the cause of the violence on the first student protest in London changed from being 100% down to the police totally unnecessarily charging into a crowd smacking anyone who moved with their batons, to being just angry students clashing with police as though the police had done nothing wrong as soon as it hit quarter to four and people starting to leave work. Someone must have instructed them to change it that day, because previously the reporter in question had been an eye witness to the trigger point that suddenly no longer existed.
So he's past his sell by date, and in fact has been for donkeys years now, still thinks hes a bigger "celebrity" than he actually is, and has got the hump cos someone had the AUDACITY to sack him? Hahaha, good riddance.
I've just twigged, when did he make this rant? Only we have a thing about managers coming out after we've played them saying they don't expect to leave their job, followed in a few days by them leaving their job. City on facebook yesterday were telling everyone to listen because Danny Baker was going to have someone on one of the Tiger Travel coaches doing some regular feature he has for travelling fans. Curse of the Tigers again?
Top post. Reminds me of DLT and someone else cant remember his name dunno what happened to him, cough cough when they got sacked from Radio 1. At least Smashy and Nicey managed to get the resign word in before they got the push. Oh and Danny Bakers a ****, never forget the way he rode on the Gazza circus for his own ends. Dropped him like a stone.
I actually stopped myself pointing out the Gazza thing too Chazz, so I didnt sound too ranty lol, so yeah thanks and I agree! This bloke makes my skin crawl, he's an odious, pompous ****er.
Whatever people think of him personally, his axed show was very good and very popular and cutting it was an odd thing to do(particularly axing it the week Baker was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame).
regardless of books, etc, Danny Baker is acknowledged throughout the media as an excellent and innovative broadcaster (see Radio hall of fame). I think your view depends if your preference is for Dave Fewster, David Burns, and the drains are blocked in Burkleby, near Louth type listening, or something more creative and entertaining.
