"David Bernstein says Hodgson is the only manager the FA have asked permission to speak to"

Just broke within the past few minutes. Opinions?

I personally never thought Redknapp was a good choice, whereas Hodgson has international experience, and indeed has taken nations like Switzerland and Finland above where they really should be.

Hopefully if he does get the job, he gets the respect he deserves.

[edit] Should probably have the title as something a little less concrete....let's say approached to be next England manager.

Sound appointment IMO. But he cones across as the kind of manager that would bring back the 'old guard' and for England that's not what we need, we need the youngsters coming through now. For me the new gen is just as good as the old gen.

Not sure what to think; Redknapp has shown he has no bottle if his team lose it as they have but then Hodgson didn't have a great spell at Liverpool with ego's and big players so I'm really not too sure

Couldn't see this anywhere else and apologies if missed it, just seen that Roy has been approached for the England job. I'd be a little surprised if he took it, thought he'd want to push on next year but definitely needs some financial backing to get there which may not be available. What are you guys thoughts? Good news? Bad news? Glad it may not be Harry?

Roy Hodgson!? <doh> Oh dear ...and to think I was looking forward to the euros this year...and France have got their act together so we´ll have no one to take the limelight off us when we make an embarrasement of ourselves again.

Just noticed the same thread, SORRY!! Please merge, combine, lucky dip this if need be moderating board. And in answer to your comment Nigel's Red Army - yes I'm glad too, Harry sucks. If Roy doesn't take it I hope they go for anybody else (except Nige)..

Really disappointed to hear this. It's an illogical approach. He has done a good job at WBA and does well at making a smaller team push above ther weight but has failed in the pay at getting big egos and big players perform for him. Of all the managers we could go for, hodgson is a cheap and poor choice IMO.

I always twitch when there are any managerial movements. Don't want any vacancies in the PL that might tempt a certain person. WBA....nah!

I'd really love Carlo Ancelotti, but can't see that happening.

I think Hodgson will cut it as the next England Manager, but he has to rely on the youngsters earlier.

I am so pleased that the FA seem to have got cold feet over Redknapp. I never thought he was the man for the job. My opinion is that the FA should approach Wenger, but if that is not to be then Hodgson is a good call.

I think he will do a good job as England manager. It's a big loss for WBA if he goes, and I can't see him turning down the England job.

Although, Stuart Pearce might not be the end of the world, the players showed a lot of grit and fight against Holland, especially to come back from 2 down. Still blew it though!
