Saw him at Newcastle at one of the boss sounds festivals in 2007. Bought tickets for the weekend because Eek a mouse was supposed to be there, but he didn't turn up. Seen some great bands up there this year. Culture, the Abyssinians, Misty in Roots, The Wailers. The Drop on Saturday and David Rodigan next month. Love reggae music me like.
Me too Hat, having spent some time in Jamaica, you cant ignore the music, as it means so much to them over there. But it is not solely reggae as I am sure you are aware.
Seriously thinking about going there next year. I've been put off though by loads of stories about not being able to go to Kingston and St. Anne's because it's too dodgy for tourists. Can't go there and be confined to the hotel for two weeks. What's your opinion of it?
It has been some time since I was there, but stay away from Kingston, the real attractions are all on the more rural north coast anyway. This need not mean just staying in the hotels, which are very good but can be aimed at the American market . Try contacting the Tourist Board of Jamaica who used to run lots of schemes for visitors to stay in smaller family establishments with all the local knowledge you could ask for, this is the best way of seeing the real Jamaica, which is well worth the effort.
