Just watched Look North, BBC1 (I know) and THREE times "Richmondshire" was mentioned - about rural crime in "Richmondshire, North Yorkshire" WTF? Is Chief Inspector Gandalf on the case? Are the local plod called Bigfoots? ****ing hell x
What's wrong with Richmond like? Apart from being a Tory Stronghold like. Gorgeous little town and a part of our national heritage, if it's on the decline due to crime I hope they get it sorted. Spend a lot of time there through the summer and planning a trip soon. Got the Green Howards Museum too.
Bri. Listen. They didn't say "Richmond in North Yorkshire". They said "Richmondshire" I Live in East Herringtongshire Its near the Prancing Pony in Penshawshire x
Richmond is in Richmondshire or that's the name of the council borough Richmondshire, so its not just the town of Richmond but the whole shire where crime is on the increase. Suppose it would be like, crime is on the increase in Ashington and Bedlington, they would have said Wansbeck in the past, now it would probably be just the whole of Northumberland. Even if crime was falling in Blyth/Cramlington.
I've not heard that before although some of my Northumberland relatives still say Hexhamshire which it used to be at one time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexhamshire Mebbe's Richmondshire was the same. There's a great song by The Unthanks about it ............ http://rosiebell.typepad.com/rosiebell/2011/06/fareweel-regality.html
Nowt wrong wiv Richmond... I often pop thru there to walk the dog. I went thru last weekend for a curry and watched the Froch fight in the pub. It's a lot quieter than it used to be mind... Squaddies seem to have deserted the place.
