I just came across this article: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/map-charts-every-wwii-bomb-strike-london-213414612.html Hull already has its own! http://www.hullblitz.org/ In the thread about where your childhood was spent, a few wrote about playing on 'bombies' (bomb-sites), of which there were masses in Hull.
When I was a kid in the late 50's and early 60's we played on bombsites in Drypool not far from the Docks. We lived in the old terraced houses before they was eventually demolished in the middle to late 60's. Down our street one of the bombsites became a mini kids park when they built swings and climbing frames on it. Then we used to help the demolition men pull the houses down, you'd never get away with it nowadays with Health and Safety. It was some of the best times of my life which i'm real pleased I went through.
I lived on Sculcoates Lane off Beverley Road until 1958. There was a bomb site on each side of the road running parallel to the drain. We used to have great cricket matches with up to 30 lads and blokes all playing in the same match. The rule was all the young kids got a bat first but with so many fielders around, runs were hard to come by.
Worked at Joseph Rank's offices in Great Union Street, 1959-60. Also knew the Hull Chapter Hell's Angels president, in about 1970/1. Think his name was Bernie? He lived in Strawberry Street (if I'm right?), with his old lady (= partner - not mum!)
