I agree. Sadly a lot of people seem stuck in the past and don't like anything new. Radio 2 users for example. Had the misfortune a while back to hear Steve Wright. It's exactly the same show as he was doing in the 80s.
Yeah, what I'm saying is why did they use that car? I wasnt suggesting they stuck that reg on a different car. There is no way in a million years they just randomly chose a car, when heading to Argentina, that had a registration plate with letters and numbers relating to the Falkands war and you and everyone else knows this.
To be perfectly honest, even if I'd seen that car parked in Stanley Harbour, the registration H982 FKL wouldn't have made me think of the Falklands war.
Well obviously it has somebody - either the locals who we understand were outraged or the PR person who made up the story for Top Gear publicity.
Surely you're not suggesting that people are getting offended because they want to be offended? Personally i think its an excuse by the Argentina government to raise the issue, again.
so how difficult is it to find a car with a reg plate that's got a reference to the falklands and the year of the war there? it'd be like looking for a needle in a haystack. or perhaps the car came before the idea of taking it to argentina?
Do we? I've always thought that we grossly over-glorify the Americans whilst neglecting to acknowledge the Russians. To be fair, we did participate in both World Wars from start to finish. The Battle of Britain was crucial, yet we stood alone. P.S. This is historical, and not political.
Well, after all, it wasn't the Battle of France or the Battle of the United States....... But I agree with you - too much America (thanks, Hollywood)
I reckon there's some French, Polish, Canadian, New Zealand and others that might have had a hand in things too.
It's funny you should say that because the Battle of France included French, Belgian, British, Dutch, Canadian, Czechoslovakian and Luxembourgish forces. It wasn't just the French in that battle, but the Battle of Britain was Britain on its own.
Thats an incredibly ignorant way to put it Nathan. Just because they flew under the RAF banner doesnt mean that their nationality should be ignored. Plenty of Polish, Czechoslovakian, American, Canadian, Australian and New Zealanders among others fought in the skies for us. Don't forget that.
A lot. I'm eternally grateful for their service in the RAF. Not the exact numbers. I'm not ignoring their nationality. They flew under the RAF banner, so they fought for Britain. When I said "Britain was on its own", I meant without the help of the US and the Soviet Union, but it is true that Polish pilots made up a significant portion of our forces in the Battle of Britain, as well as other nationalities who had to flee occupied Europe. I'm well aware of what the continental Europeans did during WWII, and who they fought for. Also, who the f** is Nathan?
