Just seen this on the BBC sports website - Crystal Palace poised to appoint former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis for vacant role at Selhurst Park!! Full article here - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...y-Pulis-for-vacant-role-at-Selhurst-Park.html As the article says, he has never been relegated - time will tell.
I think that the appointment will be about returning quickly to the Prem. This year they surely have to be gonners as they are woefully short in all areas and look totally out of their depth.
It took Tony Pulis years to build his Stoke team to that particular blueprint for PL survival "against the odds". You can't just impose the same style on any squad of players and hope to succeed. I think people underestimate the man. If he takes over at Palace they will NOT play the same way as his Stoke team. More likely he will tighten them defensively first of all, so I would anticipate something more like Hull and Cardiff when we face them in two weeks time.
Not sure why you put a after that sweeping statement Not sure if I could enjoy another 90 minutes of attack, attack, attack and feeling frustrated at the end of it.
Especially, I guess, if Kevin Phillips manages to do what KP does in the last few minutes. Still, I don't think Speroni is likely to put in a performance to compare with Marshall and McGregor.
I thought those two games were utterly absorbing; edge of the seat entertainment to the final whistle. I don't know what you guys want from your football; whatever it is, it apparently leads mostly to frustration and disappointment.
Or he'll try to tighten them up defensively. Hollaway was not exactly picking players to form a defensive side. So changing to a very defensive approach whilst practical may not suit his squad! I'm just hoping that he as insufficient time to organise the 10 man defense! Bah!
Interesting. They must be struggling to persuade people to take the job as I thought they counted TP out in about 3 days after holloway went, after nearly a month I imagine they're getting desperate.
Seeing the names linked to the Palace job is just one of the reasons I don't think it would be a good idea to sack Hughton. There's not a lot of good managers to choose from. I can't see Palace staying up this season with the squad they've got, unless they go on a shopping spree in January lol.
he's the best manager they could have got in their situation. years of stable, premier league football under his belt. it might not be great to watch but palace suddenly now have a slight chance of staying up this year and they will definitely be a much tougher unit to break down. typical - just in time to play us...
I bet the Sun (gutter press) sports dept are licking their corporate lips at the prospect of a headline like : " Crystal Pulis"
I can see it now - 89 mins of domination against a 10 man defence and we again fail to score and in the last minute they get a corner and Wilbs scrambles one in
Yep, it's a win win appointment and I'm surprised it's taken so long. Pulis won't suffer any real reputation damage given Crystal Palace's chances at the moment. Palace also have one of the managers with a strong record of getting out of the Championship.
fingers crossed they get him today / tomorrow so they get the new manager bounce for one game on Saturday
The stats show that "new manager bounce" is no more real than "second season syndrome". And the real phenomenon to which "new manager bounce" alludes, the statistical reality of regression to the mean, should not cause you concern, since Palace have not so far been performing at a level well below their mean level; they are simply where everyone expected them to be given their resources.
Really?? The Cardiff game perhaps, especially the first half, but I personally found the Hull game absolutely dreadful to watch, it was like pulling teeth.
