An interesting read of the national daily newspapers and sports section in one on monday revealed the Final League placement Prize awards. From bottom place(20th) £800k to top(1st) = £16m it goes up in £800k amounts. The Full list is as follows : - 1) Manchester City = £16million 2) Manchester Utd = £15.2m 3) Arsenal = £14.4m 4) Tottenham Hotsp = £13.6m 5) Newcastle United = £12.8m 6) Chelsea = £12.0m 7) Everton = £11.2m 8) Liverpool = £10.4m 9) Fulham = £9.6m 10) West Bromwich = £8.8m 11) Swansea City = £8.0m 12) Norwich City = £7.2m 13) Sunderland = £6.4m 14) Stoke City = £5.6m 15) Wigan Athletic = £4.8m 16) Aston Villa = £4.0m 17) D Queens Park Ran = £3.2m -------------------------------- 18) Bolton Wanderous = £2.4m 19) Blackburn Rovers = £1.6m 20) Wolverhampton W. = £0.8m Prior to sundays final games every team was in the same place Except for Sunderland, Swamsea and Norwich City who were 11th,12th,13th respectively. Sunderlands loss to Man Utd cost them £1.6m as they finished 13th whereas Swansea and Norwich City each gained an extra £800k for the wins they enjoyed. FFS,, Fulham Win £9.6m for finishing 9th. Add that to the TV cash for next season and thats almost £100m income before any other income is received by them (ie. sponsors, season tickets, corporate etc etc) Now IF the Allams dont want a part of this sort of cash then why did they bother saving us ?
Those figures look good but when you think that if we did go up there's a fair chance we could finish 15th or lower and that's only £4.8million which wouldn't cover the signings we would need to make, extra wages and wage rises for existing players. Unless your regularly finishing in the top half I think the best way to make money is to become a yo-yo club and keep the expenditure down when the club is in the Prem.
Yes but the prize money is an extra. When you consider that each club gets £90m before anything else at the seasons start.
£90million!!!! Is that true? If so how much money would we have made from our two seasons in the Prem including prize money, and how the hell did we manage to blow it all?
It went up from the start of this season due to the PL selling on the overseas PL rights for more money. With Sky under pressure for the next contract the money will rise to more than £100m in a couple of years. PL is the place to be. IMO, Nick would not only have got us back up next season but also made us a top 10 PL club within 3 years of getting back to it. imo. Hull City blew it last time thanks to the antics of Dufferman and Brown.
You don't get £90m for the season, the £90m is the headline figure that promotion gets you, even if you get relegated(you get nearly £50m a year while you're in the league and then £48m in parachute payments over the next four years if you get relegated).
I believe it's £40m per year per team for being in the PL, plus the extra prize money for placement finishes. The rest is all promotion and potential relegation payments as OLM said.
Erm.....Rubbish. £60m from sky and £30 from the overseas rights. The overseas rights saw a big increase from the season just finished. The parachute payments have nothing to do with it. Tony Pulis and Peter Coates(Stoke City) made a big thing about it last August to justify Stokes spending. IF Al Jazeera TV wins the UK rights from Sky they have already promised that each PL club will get more and figures of £100m+ per PL club per season (incl. the overseas rights deal) could well be the norm very soon.
Oh shut up Tickler... I wouldn't mind but you just refuse to consider the possibility that you may be wrong - standing by your point is one thing, being narrow-minded as well as being stubborn as a mule is something else.
That's the difference between me and you. I've stated what I believe it to be, but accept that I haven't really looked into it and could easily be wrong. And although I reckon OLM's probably spot on, I'm sure he'd happily be proved wrong. You'll just keep forcing your opinion down our throats until we give up trying to say otherwise. Constructive criticism
Not one little bit. Its come from people within the game and the PL Richard Scudamore. I dont care one way or another and certainly not to force it down anyones throat. You and olm believe what you want to. I am happy to be proved wrong if you can so lets leave it at that for now eh. ?
Fine by me, I really have no interest in getting into a 'my Dad will batter your Dad' situation. My Dad will shag your Dad. And your Dad will enjoy it. Frankie Boyle, ladies and gentleman.
