I'm using Google Chrome as my browser. Every so often I get a 'window' opening which is "Internet Helper Anti-Phishing Software - Update" It's something I don't want to allow in. Question is - how do I stop the 'window' appearing? Anyone know?
Do a full scan of your pc too Stanners. I assume you have some sort of AV on your pc? Do a full scan. If you have something like Adaware, do a full scan with that. Failing that, or in addition, use this: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ Certainly wouldnt hurt to run that as well tbh. Also if you dont have a decent AV, get Avast. It's free and decent. Finally, install Adblock as an addon in Chrome.
Cheers, Happy - Just put Adblock Plus for Chrome on. Have Avira as AV; I use Housecall quite regularly, but not done so re this.
Well that's what I would do, its not just a case of blocking that, I'd suspect it's plopped sommat on your PC, best to see if you can find it and remove it.
Well - I ran the scan and it found 1 x trojan and 1 x adware. I fixed them and now the sodding 'anti-phishing' notification has just appeared again.
try Junkware Removal tool (jrt) it is free and works well. Stop clicking on patty's live streaming links and/or visiting pornsites
Well, Mr.H - I used jrt (from CNET) and now my laptop 'Cannot Connect to Proxy Server'! (I'm using a Mac, via cable, to post this) Any more tips?
Not sure if it’s the same on a Mac but I’d try: Downloading MalwareBytes, use the free version, make sure its database is up to date. Rebooy and enter safe mode (virus won't be able to do anything in this mode), then run Malwarebytes.
Although some are already mentioned Stanley there are 3 free programmes worth using. Ad - Aware, Malwarebytes and Spybot, and this website may help out http://www.majorgeeks.com/
Soz - didn't make myself clear! The message (Cannot connect to proxy server) is via my PC laptop ( = wireless) but I'm using a cabled Mac to access the Net. My Google Chrome on laptop can't connect; nor can Internet Explorer
You tried safe mode? Use “safe mode with networking” and plug in the Ethernet cable into your laptop direct from your router – this will give you access to the net whilst in safe mode. Unless something else is ****ed?
I had this on my pc recently. I rang KC and they talked me through resetting the network. It involved going into tools on Internet explorer but I can't remember which settings were changed.
