I am looking at buying a tablet thingee to view stuff like SkyGo, IPlayer, Hull City Player, YouTube, not606, email and attachments and similar. What do I need? Which one is best for what want?
Certainly not the iPad! They dont allow the flash player so that alone ruins your chance of most videos. I.e BBC sport run flash player so no highlights there. I think not sure hull city player do too and most site use flash! The iPads are so limited to what they do. I can go on and on but biggest one is the idiots at apple don't get it! Flash player is needed in most cases nowadays! My brother has a ASUS eeepad and it's unreal! Even comes with a keyboard you plug the tablet onto and adds a further 12 hours battery, makes it like a laptop and it runs android so it is virtually like a pc! Awsome little thing. I'll post a link later!
http://uk.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/ That's the ee pad Plus for the record, those who say I knock iPads before trying. I had the latest one and returned it, was so limited! And your also limited to iTunes too! Unless you wish to unlock it, void your warranty and be more likely to have a fooked machine! I went with a small laptop instead! Can't beat a pc!
I'll second the asus transformer with the dock. Only reason not using it now as it is charging up! The best techy 'toy' I've bought in long time
I love the IPad but only because the start up is so easy. I bought one for the wife and it is used constantly, but I have a laptop as well. Would recommend the IPad only for it's simplicity. Nothing else. Great for non computer savvy users.
Transformer is an excellent machine. I've got the new version - Transformer Prime - arriving next week and cannot wait. The only thing you won't be able to use at the moment is Sky Go as the app is still "in development" and expected some time during Winter. iPad does offer this service but i'd take an Android device for everything else. Neither is perfect but for me I'd go for an Android tablet. The only other thing I'd add is that lots of new devices will be announced in the next month or two which will be more powerful and will also mean older models will drop in price (expect at least a £100 drop on many).
I thought today's smartphones, of any type, Android, Apple, Blackberry or Windows, could do the same thing.
I love the iPad, but I only use it for checking messages, checking the boards etc, it's a coffee table thing. I still prefer a laptop for everything else.
I had in my head there were some new ones being released for sale (rather than just announced) as well. I don't know why but I've got Amazon in my head as a company looking to capitalise on their success with Kindle by branching out. If I'm not imagining it then that would be a good one to watch for deals on. They'll want it very competitively priced and will make sure there's good customer support to back it up so that their ereader software is as wide spread as possible because they'll make their money through ebook sales.
I agree with the iPad thing, it's only good if you want to kill boredom and mess about with apps If you want the things you said you want, like someone said Windows 8 and Samsung Galaxy are probably the best. But I would research this more than asking on a football forum
my attitude to research is sound out as many sources as possible before coming to a balanced concensus
I'm a total Apple convert - Macbook, iPad and iPhone though I agree you need the laptop and the iPad wouldn't be enough on its own
samsungs the best tablet , but i only use apple products at home and they are brilliant at doing what you ask it to - first time - without stress. That said the iPAD lags behind the Sammy , but if you already own Apple products then id suggest sticking with the connectivity - if exclusive connectivity - of apple shizzle. If you dont have anything with the apple logo on it , then stick to something that does more , but maybe not as satisfactorily. In my recording studio , anything i stick in my iMac works first time without a blink , with my windows based stuff (i use for lugging around) i can get MORE to work , but its always a hassle. Still - id pick up a samsung tab.
I'm happy with the iPad. I wouldn't worry about Flash, more and more sites are moving to open source media. The BBC are currently in transition to move away from flash. I think the videos on BBC NEWS are non flash now. The Kindle Fire is out soon which will be the best value tablet. Amazon are selling it at a loss to hopefully cash in on books and media.
