There is also a reunion tonight for the class of 99'. Believe it is starting at the Mission in Old town at 7. Unfortunately, I cannot make it!
Thanks for that H^3, good pics - tbh I'm surprised it's lasted so long, the place was a bit rough around the edges when I was there 40 odd years ago.
actually those buildings were a bit like Slough trading estate.. no great loss.. the Chapel remains.. was there '85-'88
I hope the Boss and Paddy Flood were in there when they knocked the bastard down. Arseholes, the pair of 'em.
There was someone called Hughes I think but I don't remember his first name I hung around with Jacko whose parents ran blue bell inn in the market place. ****inson was maths teacher Wouldn't let my type di ck inson Mad Jack was Always threatening to beat you to death with choice of ropes end. Nobby Clarke was ok . Taught us Morse code or tried to . Someone called Crawford was form teacher... Always threatened to keep you in but never did. Bomber Lancaster was a t**t at lobbing blackboard rubber at your head Played for school footy team ...we lost games 18-0. 14-0 etc
Bloody hell Filey, you bring back memories; Nobby Clarke, bless him, sometimes had a Woodbine as he taught us morse code. Bomber, a submariner, scariest ****er I'd ever met - Bomber quote ''I'd rather keep pigs than teach you lot''. Mr Eldon - taught us Eng. Lit & English ......... thank **** for him, the only ''normal'' in the place. Spinxy, Simpson, Harry Eddom (headmaster) are the others I recall. Mad Jack, threatened by a lad in my year (Sean E.) .... daft thing to do, Nobby Clarke bounced him round the gym using his big belly. Happy days, you tell g'kids how it was and they think you're ****ting 'em, if only.
A guy 2 doors down in my street went to Trinity House and introduced me to baseball as a kid. Evidently it was played there back in the early 50's. He was a real battler as he wore a leg brace due to earlier Polio and obviously had a bad limp but played as the catcher and was a true devotee. Took me to my first baseball game which was played behind Hull Eastern Cemetery between the Hull Royals and Hull Pirates.
Use to go and see a game every other Sunday at the old HKR Craven Park ground until one day with practically full row of seats to chose form to sit down I sat on one with wood rot and went straight through it, sore bum for quite a while afterwards.
Not Sean Edwards by any chance? I know him, very genuine guy, unfortunately he's not in the best way right now
Quiet afternoon for me, so I thought I'd just complete this story. please log in to view this image Couple of thoughts. Firstly, it must be a pretty rare open site inside the old town walls. Surely some gang of archaeologists are going to have a dig around. Secondly. I really hope it's not just turned into a car park as originally mooted.
I've no idea how you lot can remember your teachers names, I can only remember one of my teachers, he was called Rawlings and I only remember it because he had a Morris 1000 with a Lotus Cortina engine and it was painted with brown household gloss paint.
Left the school in December 1963, played for the football team only side that gave us a real going over was Boulevard losing 6 1. Eddon was the head, remember Boal a South African. Commander Lancaster(bomber) Nobby Clarke great bloke. Jack Haylett (geoff) PE, Football and Seamanship. Spinks, Pearce. Discipline was at a Premium! Joined the Old Boys Association a couple of years ago and meet quite a few old class mates.
