I just noticed from the La Liga table that Malaga finished 4th and will play in the "Champions (sic) League" next season. I also noted that their away record in La Liga this season is 4W 4D and 11L. This helped them amass 58 points, 42 less (more than 1 per game) than the actual champions of that league. My questions to anyone who's a bit bored are these: 1. Has anyone qualified for the Champions (sic) League with a worse away record? 2. Has anyone qualified for the Champions (sic) League who has finished more than 42 points behind the actual champions of their league?
Don't know but that record away is piss poor for a Champions League spot, just because La Liga has Ronaldo and Messi it obviously doesn't mean it is good
Malaga, as far as I know, are backed by some incredibly wealthy people these days. Hence their rise up the league. I just thought I would mention that (saw it on Football Focus I think), but unfortunately I cannot offer any answers to your questions, Imperial.
Are they?Didnt know that. Cos i was just thinking for next season, cheap flight and get a ticket for when Barca or Real Madrid hit town and a few days in the sun.
1st Real Madrid 100 points 2nd Barcelona 91 points 3rd Valencia 61 points Its even more of a two horse race than Scotland. Give me the EPL any day of the week.
They were crap when I went to watch them play Alaves a few years ago, drab 0-0. They must have had no attack as they didn't manage to put one past Leeds in the UEFA cup a few days later either. The only player I remember recognising in either the Malaga or Alaves team was Dario Silva. Now he was a player who knew how to dive!
Going on the fact they finished above Athletic Bilbao who handed Man U their arse on a plate who knows what it says about how good or **** the Spanish League is.
They were after Wesley Sneijder last summer, and ended up with Trigger van Nistelrooy and Joaquin, both past it.
That's a massive gulf. The Manchester clubs have pulled away a bit this season but they've both lost games to the likes of Swansea, Wigan and Blackburn and the chasing pack have run them both close at times.
Just found this about Malaga, it says that they're owned by a Qatari, so probably is them that's rich. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Málaga_CF
DarÃo Silva was in a serious car accident a few years ago and lost his leg. He was a hell of a player, fantastic finisher. I think he played for Portsmouth for a couple matches.
Ah fair enough. I remember it began with M. I heard they'd recently splashed quite a lot of cash on some good quality players in their 30's
It is malaga that are really rich. They signed santi cazorla from villerreal for 20mil +, also got dimichelis, toulalan and julio baptista....hardly surprising they finished fourth in that league!
