Harry Roberts was imprisoned for his part in the shooting of three police officers in London in 1966. Despite an anticipated public backlash, Ministers will be powerless to prevent his release. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29734816
one would have hoped that after 45 years of rehabilitation, he has changed sufficiently enough. People seem to forget that prison isn't about punishment, it's about reforming the character of the prisoner.
You're showing your age there Hatter - I did actually hum the same thing to myself this morning when I read about his release.
You'd think. Although apparently in 2009 whilst doing a work project he threatened the owners of the business with violence so I doubt very much that he has learnt his lesson.
Im not sure, I was a little bit dead 45 years ago! As above... It's just a well known song... Isn't it?
Harry Roberts would have been hanged but the death penalty had been abolished eight months earlier. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ys-Murderer-cleared-release-Parole-Board.html
If his victim had died two days earlier, he'd have been hanged for an earlier ofence where he attacked a man with a bottle and the guy died a year and three days later. I think it's a year and a day after being attacked, that dying from the injuries would be deemed murder.
