Here we go. Think the South and the Yanks should just go in and blow **** out of them. No doubt Britain and Australia will be there with bells on
Trouble is it would probably bring China and the Soviets in on North Korea's side, as they did in the Korean war in the fifties, and the nuclear holocaust we have dreaded for years could kick off. A few well placed assassinations would be the better option IMO. I know it would be morally wrong but if it prevented a nuclear world war then in think it is justified.
This is just this new leader wanting to show he is a tough cookie, 90% of his people are starving, so he wants to show them and the rest of the world he is not to be trifled with. No pun intended.
The bloke is a nutter, and Putin is very unlikely to lift a finger to assist, which in effect isolates him and NK. Probable scanarios:- a) Internal revolution, coup or assassination b) Some sort of win-win 'compromise' where he doesn't lose face with his people and he gets talked down from his position c) NK panics and launches some weapons......
I think I'd miss the entertainment of their crudely Photoshopped attempts to show off their military might.
This is only going to end one way. North Korea being bombed to hell. China and the other Soviet/Communist countries around them have already said that they are on their own. I say all this, but it could easily be another Vietnam...
Regardless of what China may have said if America attacked North Korea without any aggressive attack by North Korea beforehand, China would get involved, and the US would not risk that. If, however, and somewhat unlikely, North Korea tried to fire a missile at the US, there would be a fairly simple chain of events. It'd be taken out before it reached America & then the US would blow them off the map. They'd have to be completely insane to ever launch an attack against America though, unfortunately, they probably are.
China & Russia have told NK not to start anything, but if the US goes in first, then all hell will break loose.
China won't want to get involved, the trillions they import to the west is too vital to their economy
I'd say its guaranteed America would back S.Korea if they were attacked, perhaps not with soldiers but they'll help them in some way. They won't allow a communist nation to attack a democratic ally without getting involved, Obama would be ousted otherwise!
Probably right. If NK throw the first stone, as it were, then China would stay well clear. If not, China will likely get involved - but probably through supplying weapons more than sending in millions of troops, at first anyways. The US will step in the moment South Korea is attacked, though.
It couldn't, the reason the US lost in Vietnam was the fact that they didn't know how to face Guerrilla warfare and with the approach of 'limited war', it's almost impossible to win, hence the defeat in China too. In the case of being attacked by North Korea, the US could just go nuclear and wipe them out, without any of the problems faced in Vietnam.
Yes, but it'd go the same way as last time. They'd just drive them back and everything would be the same again. They wouldn't go as far as trying to unite a capitalist Korea.
I can't see the US just dropping a nuclear bomb on N.Korea, the amount of civilians killed would be a huge problem for them to explain, especially as N.Korea can't reach them with a nuke.
That would be way too risky. Killing millions of innocents would probably cause widespread damnation on the US, and could in itself cause countries like China to help the North. Also, the North Koreans would likely just retaliate with nuclear weapons of their own (if they do truly have any). They would keep fighting until the last man.
It shouldn't be forgotten that North Korea doesn't possess any missiles capable of reaching the US mainland and its current actions only isolate it in the world further. China's new leadership is keen to distance itself from North Korea and their relationship is waning. Russia on the other hand, whilst maintaining strong ties with North Korea, won't support any military action against other nations as shown by its past condemnation of North Korea's attacks on Yeonpyeong.
The second anyone went nuclear against the US, they'd respond with nuclear too. Can't see North Korea ever attacking the US anyway, but they probable will have a crack at South Korea at some point.
Bringing the armistice back would be a good result IMO, the only reason Obama would try to wipe them out is if he genuinely believed (or could convince people) that N.Korea could reach them with a nuke in the near future.
