It's almost as if you can read my mind.

Anyway, The Pussycat Lounge close to Wall Street / Battery Park area was always a particularly seedy place. Once had a gun pointed at me in there.

    Right up your street.

I've just come back! Stayed Madison av. That's close to 5th ave ( all the posh shops ), Broadway, time square & Central park! I took the kids! Visited ground zero & the museum ( you must go ), Empire State, helicopter along Manhattan ( fantastic ) Dekota hotel (Lennon), Liberty Island and more. Going again next year! Get wrapped up though and take plenty of dosh! :)

Angelo's restaurant in Little Italy. Ice-skating in Central Park, a Nicks game at Maddison Square Gardens.

    We're staying on 57th Street.

    Is that anywhere near?

I'd be impressed if you knew.

Down load the opentable app. You can book any restaurant and they give immediate confirmation. Also get the groupon app and put Manhattan as your destination it will then give you all latest deals. Another app is the timeout it gives you all the latest places to eat and drink.
You must do the mob tour that starts in Little Italy good fun and it lasts about 3 hours.
Oh yeah Century 21 is good for clothes bargains similar to TJ Maxx.
There are shed loads of pubs that show all the English games live.
I can assure you that you will go back its a great place and 5 days is just right.

We was recommended it but was advised to queue even though we hadn't booked - well worth the wait not only for the excellent food.

Free stuff like The High Line, Brooklyn Bridge at night, Staten Island ferry...Some good comedy clubs too if thats your thing - need to book for some. Went to a Yankees game & ate too much - better food than The KC

    Ellens stardust dinner a must
Dont go up the Empire state building go up the Rock instead and remember to look up when you get in the lift.
Go up at dusk and see the city light up.
Why is it better than Empire State? Well you can't see the Empire State if you're standing on it.
But the Empires pretty amazing inside
    Bike round central park
Just walk for miles staring up with your gob open walking into things
Stand and gawp at yellow cabs, big fire engines, new york cops Time Square at night
    You'll have a ball

I have a relative who has lived there for about 10 years. He loves it. Feels safer walking around at night than he did living in Scarborough as there are twice as many coppers there as similar sized London. One bit of advice he was given, don't walk around gawping upwards at all the skyscrapers as that tells any dodgy characters that you aren't local. You might get mugged but you won't get beaten up for a laugh like here. Good value everywhere, price ranges to suit any pocket. Just gutted that health reasons mean I can't go over as he has a brilliant place in Manhattan.
Hope you have a good time..
