Living in Sheffield, I know of a fair few local bands which have made it 'BIG'. for example The Arctic Monkeys, who a couple members used to live on my friends roads'. Reverend and The Makers and more. But I can't seem to think of many Hull bands that have got far apart from The Housemartins.
Can anyone think of any major Hull Bands?

    Spiders From Mars.

    Everything But The Girl.

Sade(she wasn't from Hull, but the band was).

These bands don't have the same recognition as The Housemartins, Reverend and The Makers and Arctic Monkeys though :/

The Spiders From Mars and Sade don't have the recognition of Reverend and The Makers and the Housemartins?

    Are you mental?

Ziggy Stardust is 6th in Rolling Stone's list of the most influential albums of all time and Sade have sold several times more records than The Housemartins, Reverend and The Makers, the Arctic Monkeys and Pulp combined.

When you think about it is amazing that Hull hasn't produced major music act since the Housemartins/Beautiful South. Look what Manchester has produced in the last 30 years, Joy Division. New Order, Stone Roses, The Smiths, The Charlatans, Oasis and even now they have bands like Courteeners and Kid British.

,,. and also led to one of my all time fave covers - Bauhaus (Ziggy) .. brings nback my student years ..

.. but as an aside I'd heard that the music scene in Hull was now cutting edge ... after 'House' and 'Garage' I'd understood that you guys were pioneering the next big thing ... 'Static Caravan' ..?? ... <whistle>

    Shed Seven are from York...

I love the Bauhaus version of Ziggy, I saw them perform it at Futurama 2 in Leeds back in the day.

... was the first track on my home made 'compilation tape' that I had whilst a student ... put it on at full volume to drown out all other noise whilst revising - only way I could do it ... stands up there for me with some others that served similar purposes for me over the years... rather random I'll admit ...
