Athletico aren't going to challenge Real and Barca regularly. They constantly have to sell there best players. Koke and Costa will probably leave in the summer.
Considering that Fergie is now marketing himself as a management 'guru', lecturing at Harvard and all that, it's not much to his credit that he appears to have chosen such a poor successor, surely.
I read his book (Ferguson) he has a massive ego, wouldn't surprise me at all. After reading his book I don't think he would survive a season in top-flight management if he was starting his career now, he's lucky that things were done differently 30 years ago.
I don't think Moyes is a bad manager but its unbelievable that he was given the Man U job above the likes of Mourinho/Klopp and whoever else. It's not just Ferguson who has big influence at Man U though its Bobby Charlton too, I remember reading he didn't like Mourinhos ways. He was a failed manager (Charlton) and maybe not one to pass judgement on managers so between him and Ferguson they got the man they wanted.
I think it'll be a case of he'll get a couple of years pay out, clauses etc. Kind of like Pardew at Newcastle, I think the length is to protect the club with clauses if they wish to sack the manager.
In any business it's a mistake to allow an employee to choose their successor. They are the least objective person regarding the post. Ferguson should have been thanked for his services by his employers, given his golden hairdrier and waved off into the sunset. Anything else is sentiment over pragmatic business sense as we are seeing.
Just a one year pay off for Moyes. "United to announce manager’s departure today after failure to qualify for Champions League triggers one-year pay-off". Here is a link: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ds-decision-was-made-in-february-9273567.html
There was a huge problem for Moyes from Day 1 as the only way was down for him. With regard to potential Managers it would take someone with exceptional abilities at Champions League level to take the Club onwards and upwards. The couple or so who have been mentioned would be very hesitant (imo) to take on such a demanding position when they are up against the likes of Liverpool who are on a roll just now and Man City and Chelsea who appear to have unlimited funds. One bloke who made no bones about the job was Eric Cantona who said he would never enter Football Club Management unless it was with Manchester United who were the only club worthy of his talents (??!!). I can recall SAF coming under enormous pressure when he first took over and was almost given the Khyber but went on to prove his worth. I cannot see that happening in this day and age and the board will want some positive results early on.
I said yesterday that I thought he'd should have been given a bit more time, but then you read some of the reports online and it really was just an utter disaster, from start to finish. Absolute rabbit in the headlights. Some say he offered a half-hearted resignation after losing 3-0 at home to Liverpool. He didn't have a clue how to turn it around. They've just waited til now so they didn't have to pay as much in severance to him, once it was known all the basic objectives had been missed. Oh dear.
He's been bl**dy useless all season and deserves to go. Mata got 3.5 for his performance against Everton, says it all!
