whos is the hardest achievement, consistently winning trophies at one club over a long period of time, or winning titles and trophies in 4 different countries?

Or being only the third man in history to win the european cup / champions league with 2 clubs. And would you honesly bet against him doing it with a third?

I'd say the latter for sure. Man Utd's record in Europe under Ferguson is shocking to be honest and why he doesnt get pulled up on it is beyond me.

I'd say consistently winning with the same club.

If you move around like Mourinho has you're always adapting the squads you're at to get them playing more how you want them to. Because you're coming into different situations each time it means you're tactics are naturally varying slightly from year to year, and you're up against different opponents so they don't really adapt and find you out as easily before you bugger off to the next country.

If you're at one club like Ferguson has been you initially establish a team to play the way you want, and you then have the ability to control the development of the club to produce a constant stream of suitable players. It would be much easier for you to rest on your laurels in terms of tactics which would allow opponents to work you out despite the turnover of players, so you have to be more disciplined to keep your own team evolving the way SAF has, and you have to be capable of that development.

NB: I've named individuals, but I'm talking in principle rather than comparing SAF and Mourinho as managers.

i think mourinho, but thats possibly because ive never been able to stand the sight of fergusons face, im annoyed with myself i called him fergie in the title in an almost affectionate way, and id rather cut my knackers off then ever refer to him as "sir alex"...

Seriously though, why doesnt he get criticised for his results in Europe? Havent they won 19 titles now? And off the top of my head its 3 european cups. That's frankly ****e.

i agree, thats probably the more sensible reason i go for mourinho, if he stays at madrid next season , wouldnt bet against them winning the champions league now hes got them a league title.

Precisely. Also off the top of my head Milan have won 18 league titles and SEVEN european cups / champions leagues. Kind of puts it in perspective.

Edit - they've won it FIVE times alone during Ferguson's reign at Utd.

Is it? European cups are a lot harder to win! There are way more good teams involved.

As I said, MIlan have won it 5 times during Fergies reign whilst winning fewer titles.

I'd say Jose thinking about it. Fergie has done crap in Europe and hasn't had loads of competition in the premiership only 2 or 3 teams can win it a year with a few others hanging on. Fergie just got lucky for the last twenty odd years.

So what does that prove? They've both done similarly well, United better domestically and Milan better in Europe?

Also how many of those 5 were since 2000 say? 1?

I couldn't disagree more. There are about 4 teams in the PL fighting every year and then another 3 or 4 who aren't far behind them. For example Chelsea, where are they 5th? But they're good enough to reach the CL final. As in we have 4 better teams in England than the one who are representing us in the final.

Don't have much time for Fergie but cannot stand all that 'special one' c**p which goes with Mourinho - ego the size of a planet that one.
