Hull's Energy Works power plant awarded £19.9m grant Energy Works, the renewable energy power plant planned for Hull, has been awarded a £19.9 million grant. The power plant, in Cleveland Street, will use an innovative combination of green technologies and will be the first of its kind in the UK. The Communities Minister will officially announce the grant today during a visit to the city. Baroness Hanham is to meet the scheme's promoter, Hull-based Spencer Group, before visiting the Marfleet Environmental Industries Park in Hedon Road. The grant comes from the European Regional Development Fund and is a key part of the financing for the £100m-plus energy recovery plant. Baroness Hanham said: "This plant will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the security and diversity of the energy supply. "Supporting this Hull-based company with public funding to pioneer these cleaner, more efficient technologies and sharing the learning gained from operating the plant, will help to roll out similar facilities elsewhere in the UK and around the world." http://www.thisishullandeastriding....tory-18412765-detail/story.html#axzz2NVM3f5R6
Is this the same story that was peddled last week of a huge investment in East Hull creating 600 jobs ? Although I thought agri/food was mentioned in the reports last week.....
What with the wind turbines and this it sounds like Kingston is starting to become a centre for Green Technology which can't be bad.
It's expected to be formally announced early next week, it's 700 jobs and I think it's something to do with food.
And the guy behind Energy Works is a self made millionaire who's also a fellow civil engineer - maybe just maybe the emergence of the city as a real centre of renewable energy will shut the **** up of some of the posters on this board that are always so quick to rubbish Hull - a guy with a red hat springs to mind instantly..
C'mon - you're becoming embarrassing - it got planning in October 2011 otherwise the funding would not have been given - are you an arse?
seimens also got planning permission and when is that happening? yaaaawn! the only people making any money out of seimens are the local hacks and free lance spinners
and someone from the Bransholme suburb that is Sutton without one. Hope you've had a good evening in the 'Duke' or 'Ship'. Anyway, back to the cricket.
Charlie Spencer got planning 18 months ago and it has taken this long to secure £20m of Government funding towards a £100m development nowt to do with frenzy about local hacks... Siemens is massive - do you expect everything to be cut and dried in double quick time for a development of this magnitude? - or are you just a glass half empty merchant that seems to want to slag off the City at every opportunity?
Probably take this labour sh ite weeks to decide whether we want it or not , like Siemens . Then **** all will happen.
