If I read this correctly he was in the room watching whilst it happened. Is that reason enough to publish such newspaper crap ? Perhaps "Miss Jones" from Rising Damp will be next to make a claim
It looks to me like a media desperate to shove out as many ridiculous claims in the hope it masks genuine ones from people in positions of influence.
Also if I was dead, seen as I no longer existed, whatever anyone said about my living self would have no implications from a purely selfish point of view. People could say I was a Leeds fan and it wouldn't matter to me as there would be no 'me'. Personally I think there are far more disgraceful things happening in the world than people who no longer exist having their name muddied. And yes Augusta Tiger it probably is reason enough to 'publish this crap', I think it's called being complicit in an act of rape.
Getting a bit mental this. Newsnight was supposedly name a politician last night, but didn't. Some people said it was one of Thatcher's dead aides, but I am of the understanding that it was someone living, and the feeling was he would sue if reported. No ****, eh? Then I've read somewhere today the names of FOUR politicians who are gonna be outed. I think the crazies have got hold of this and are lacing their blogs with libel. Surely? It must be? Is it??? Otherwise, *****s everywhere, running our country! Mental. Very, very mental. Glad I can go to City today and not have to think about more *****s lurking the land every time I check the news.
I doubt it is unsubstantiated. I hate the daily mail (and their anti BBC vendetta)and I also cherish the BBC, but the Jimmy Saville Allegations coming out has allowed a lot of people who were holding things that happened to them as vulnerable children inside because of shame, fear and the feeling they wouldn't be believed to finally bring it to the public's notice and gain some form of closure. I don't see what this bloke has to gain by lying about it. Maybe he was paid for the story, but if he's lying he'd be sued for libel. It is the press' responsibility to publish the story if they believe it is true and at least alert the police to it.

Why print a report that says he was in the room but he was not involved when the perpetrators were not named, at this moment in time it's a slur on Leonard's good name. Did you watch the cinzano adds they were probably the best adds ever.
If these allegations are true, has he actually committed a crime? Why arent they chasing the people accused of the attempted rape?
*Should be naming those who tried to rape him as well.* You can't be charged with libel against a dead person. It's a civil case so if you were guilty you'd be awarded damages to compensate for your loss (not to punish the culprit). What does it cost LR to have this said about him? There's no loss of future earnings, there's no cost to his estate, there's no stress or other mental/physical consequences for him.
On the program 'The British' - they didn't even mention her. They focused on this other woman. Can't remember her name !
