I always think it's a good idea to keep half an eye on the job market and being as I work in Sport and love ITFC (and my job isn't quite as secure as I'd like it to be) I check on the website every now and again to see if there is anything for me on there.

For any Marketing gurus out there:

    http://www.itfc.co.uk/club/Jobs_ITFC/

Would be great to see someone who has a real passion for the football club get their teeth into a job as from experience a love for what you are trying to achieve can only help in making you better at your job

Someone is only going to take that role for the love of the club. The salary is a pittance and they will not attract a serious marketing manager for less than £40-£50k.

I also look on there from time to time. Coming to the end of my uni studies i've tried on a couple of occasions to get some work experience/an internship at ITFC to no avail (clegg never replied and more recently I got fobbed off to the current intern). I'm planning on doing the 'Football Industries' MBA at Liverpool in a couple of years time and getting some sort of experience at football clubs is pretty essential for that course. You would have thought that your own club you've supported all your life would give you a helping hand!!! not to mention John and Patrick Cobbold were pretty close relations of mine.

Oh well, up the A140 I go!

I think, and I'm sure you'd agree, your relatives shouldn't influence your chances. The club should be a lot more open though. I'm not sure ITFC would be the best place for you though, my sources tell me that off the pitch it's a complete shambles and this advert doesn't inspire me with confidence that that will change.

That was the first thing that struck me Yorkie
Does the wage really reflect the ambition? would be my first question. Either the ambition is low or the wage offered is.

focusing on the developing and execution of marketing campaigns which meet the strategic goals and the ambitious growth plans of the business.

I must admit I was a little shocked at the Wages. How big does a professional football club's marketing department have to be though??
I would imagine (working in Sport myself) that there would be a reasonable budget and 2-3 marketing staff which does beg the question of why the hell it is so low for a managers role??

And PP which University are you at? When I was at Uni in Sheffield both clubs in the city were at least responsive and offered work experience etc. I even wrote my dissertation on Sheffield Utd. Which as you can imagine is a riveting piece of work <laugh> I reckon it may be best to ask a club near to where you're studying as often the uni has good links with the football club <ok>

your right, having relatives shouldn't improve your chances but you would like to think they could have been a lot more responsive than they have have been, as you say.

I'm at the Uni of Liverpool, not studying a sports related course but looking to go into that field. your right, I'm going to have to look further afield so I might just try the titans of Liverpool and Everton, or Tranmere if all else fails! cheers for the advice KOPR!

I'd say stay in the North, we have dozens of football clubs here at all levels so I'm sure if you work hard and put yourself out there you'll get a shot somewhere.
