It's going to cost less than £9,289,000,000 to stage the Olympics. Apparently that's under budget for a project that was supposed to cost £2,400,000,000. Although now they're not sure it will be under budget because with the legacy costs it's expected to top £11,000,000,000: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17302068 It seems obvious to me, if they want it to come in under budget they should just increase the budget again and then it's problem solved.
I really can't believe we are spending £11bn on the Olympics. We really do know how to piss money up the wall. If they offset that money against duty on fuel and lowered the cost of petrol that would make more of a legacy than the Olympics!
During the Second World War, Winston Churchill’s finance minister said Britain should cut arts funding to support the war effort. Churchill’s response: “Then what are we fighting for?” Not exactly the same situation, but I think that the general message applies.
The offer was withdrawn. To be honest, once a name has been used, I don't think it can be used again, so even if it had been changed, I don't think it could have been switched(not unless site owner Mick could have sorted it).
