Just seen the headline that Man utd are inflating their attendances by up to 24000(a nearly full KC) This, apparently, is the difference between police and club figures. Don't see what benefit they get from it and also makes me wonder how attendances are actually collated? Any ideas?
I think the figure you quoted is a bit extreme but the difference is generally between how many season tickets and tickets have been sold and how many people actually turn up
Here's the full story. http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/apr/12/manchester-united-attendances-police-figures I think what it shows is that the Police can't count. There's no way at Old Trafford you could claim a 46,000 crowd was over 70,000 and it only just be coming out now.
