.......here's a great present you might want to get: http://www.themortonreport.com/ente...y-rock-n-roll-musicany-old-way-you-choose-it/
This was Chuck when he went to Japan - note the audience just sit there with hardly any reaction at all.
On Quest T.V, not a half hour ago on Pawn Stars. A guy bought in a Stratacaster with a signed pick board on the guitar, by "Chuckles" and asked the store to buy it from him for $5000. The Shop offered him $300. Laughed right in his face.
in the 70s did,nt chuck berry get nicked for having a false wall in his toilet and filming women on the loo? he was also resposible for the horrendouse MY DINGELING which got to no 1 in the english charts. his only no 1 in the uk as far as i know. back in the ussr was a tribute by the beatles to chuck berry [back in the usa] and the beach boys [california girls].
He went to prison for armed robbery before he was famous, then after he was famous he went back to prison for having sex with a 14 year old girl.
The chorus of Back In The USSR is obviously a musical tribute/piss take of the Beach Boys but if it's also a tribute to Berry's Back In The USA then it's more just in the way both songs are about longing to get back home.
More a case of someone using the film clip and a separate sound track using the original recording which don't sync, which often happens on YouTube. Which isn't to say that he wasn't miming on the original clip, his guitar isn't plugged in. Sitting still would have been a cultural thing at the tone. Norwegian audiences managed to sit still for Sam and Dave and Otis Redding.
He was done under the Mann Act. He didn't necessarily have sex with her and it was a catch all law aimed at prostitution but was handy to deal with an uppity n***** who sang rock and roll and was therefore especially dangerous in view of the authorities. Berry wasn't, and isn't the most pleasant of people. Neither are many of the other greats of popular music. Who cares? The music is the thing.
Radio mikes had come into use then. Or ones suspended above. Even back in Elvis's day on his early TV shows you sometimes didn't see a mic as it was suspended out of view. I saw a programme where Scotty Moore said that it showed how good Elvis was the way he coped with a mic suspended out of view as the TV producers wanted a clear shot on camera. Which doesn't alter the fact that he will have been miming on the original clip of course.
It was more a case of the Beatles being a bit Bolshie (no pun intended) and writing about the USSR as so many songs featured the USA. The Beach Boys based Surfing USA on Sweet Little Sixteen. At least they credited the Beach Boys on the record label.
When the Voyager space probe set off it carried various artefacts from Earth to show any interested extra terrestrials which might come across it facets of our planet. One of them was a recording of Johhny B Goode.
It is a record made of copper. Hopefully any ETs encountering it (there are other songs and speeches on it) will have the latest stuff which will play copper records.
And then there's always this bunch.....http://www.mojo4music.com/17746/the-velvet-underground-45th-anniversary-super-deluxe-edition/
