As a runner, I can often grow totally obsessed with the sport. I was wandering how were perceived by the non runner - are we seen as shining examples of health, or as OCD maniacs who destroy their knees for a pointless sport? (I mean SERIOUS ones here, not keep fit joggers.)

From the pub, in my experience, usually when the London Marathon or Great North Run are on.

Hmmm not sure how to take the "keep fit joggers" comment. I run 3 or 4 tomes per week normally and am training for gnr thus year and a marathon next (not sure which one) but I only started doing it for losing weight but then realised I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was one if those "keep fit joggers" but now am looking for more serious stuff. I'm never going to be completing the gnr in 80 mins but I hold my own and do it for enjoyment

I'm a cyclist. Personally I think you guys are weird.

Why would you run for free when you can spend about £600-700 on an entry level bike, £200-300 on all the gear and countless more on jerseys.

    ****s sake.

When at school I was middle distance.
1500 metres & two mile cross country.

Never been one for marathons or half marathons mind.
    Admire those that do though.
