This is Scott Street Bridge - a photograph by Paul Gibson: please log in to view this image Scott Street Bridge linked Hull's two great industrial areas - Sculcoates and The Groves, across the River Hull between Wincolmlee and Jennings Street. The bridge, constructed in 1901/02, was closed in the early 1990s and now remains in the 'up' position. It's shameful dilapidated condition belies the fact that it, its lamps, railings and bridge-masters office are all Listed Buildings. What are the council waiting for - can we have it refurbished please? (Apparently it's estimated it would cost £5million to restore/repair it.)
I'm assuming the picture you meant to post was something like this... please log in to view this image Problem with Scott Street Bridge, is it no longer an important route and it's not a particularly nice bridge(the railings are actually nicer than the bridge). It's been shut since '94, we used to use it to get home from Spiders back in the day.
Sure, Lambo - that's how it looks now (my pic was pre-decommissioning, by the look of it) - but it is apparently listed, and could surely be restored for pedestrian/cyclist use (the idea of cycling over North Bridge fills me with dread.....)
They could have kept it open for cyclists and pedestrians, it was only too weak to carry heavy traffic, but in the current climate, I can't see anyone coughing up £5m(along with the ongoing operating costs) to get it back in use.
Next - a long-abandoned railway station; it's only about 200 yards from Beverley Road, at the bottom of Fitzroy Street, and was a station on the old Hull & Barnsley Railway: please log in to view this image please log in to view this image http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/b/beverley_road/index.shtml
FFS! I had a mate who lived in Cromer Street, which meets Fitzroy Street very near that station. I could swear that it was still in existence when I quit Hull in '95. I guess I'm carrying a false memory..... [Edit - that must be why I didn't find it on 'Streetview']
No, Tom - you'll see the difference from the map - the Hull & Barnsley is marked in red: please log in to view this image

Good to see this thread opened as I wanted to ask a genuine question about sightseeing in the city of Hull. Other than the Humber Bridge, what sightseeing things are there in the city that would be of interest to the casual visitor?

Cheers Stan yeah Sugar Loaf , thats where we was at , you can walk through that one , its the middle of the three . I think Drewton is one of the longest unused tunnels of its type . Another great place to visit (tho a bit of a drive ) is RAF Holmpton Cold war bunker - we was there the other week and the 90min tour was pretty good , just needs a bit more theatrics maybe for the kids !!
If you want to wander about, you could try these: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=h...QXHxoDoAQ&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=685&dpr=1 http://www.thelarkintrail.co.uk/
What I am trying to do is create a page for a website, for things to do in Hull, without trying to be like the local tourist board painting everything up and making it seem like the THE PLACE to go. So, in effect I could use a reasonably broad range of attractions. I have detail of theatres and museums of course, but beyond that, it is not easy to find much else but I am hoping there is more (of general or even specific interest)
