Hardly gets a mention but Kingston upon Hull Athlete Annabelle Lewis came 2nd in the 100m at the British Athletic Champions in Birmingham today, makes her 2nd in the UK rankings. Two Hull born Hammer throwers, James Bedflord and Alex Smith were 2nd and 3rd. Kingston upon Hull's young athletes under 13s and under 15s won their home match in the Premier League at Costello today and I am proud of them all as Club Secretary. Just need Luke Campbell to win tonight and dare I mention Hull FC winning too.
I saw her race today Jules, great effort. I don't think she hit the Olympic qualifying mark though did she? Edit - or was it commonwealth qualifying mark? I wasn't really listening
Not sure but I know she has the World B standard. She got personal bests in every round. I was at Costello today as I am also joint Team Manager but will watch it later on IPlayer. Her dad is one of our coaches and whereas a lot of athletes get "good" and then leave their home town club to go to one of the Southern clubs or Sale Harriers in Manchester Annabelle has always stuck with her home town and its great to see our club vest on TV. A lot of the time the selectors have ignored her, KUH is not a fashionable club and in Athletics sometimes its like that but they can't keep ignoring her. She was also in the relay team at the European Champs the other week.
Thanks for this, it passed me by (not Luke!)! It is great that you post as a proud Club Secretary, power to your efforts, keep us up to date (we live far and wide) and we will be greedy and share your pride.
