Do you have children or a wife ? If not, you have burglars or are a sleepwalker.

    See. Easy innit?

Or ghost cavemen. Why dont we have neanderthal man visiting us to offer an insight from the spirit world and to show us his trinkets and berries?

I know someone who worked on Most Haunted and he told me of production schedules that TO THE SECOND said when a spirit would make its presence known. Now either that's some good planning involving pre production meetings with the undead or its a load of old s**te. I dont know which one to plump for.

No, it's someone who died over a century ago who has decided to play practical jokes from the spirit world on Kempton. How can you not see this? It's a clear as day. I mean, if you were dead isnt that exactly what you would want to do? Screw visiting places and doing things that you failed to or were phsyically unable to do in the material world, let's stack some chairs at Kempton's house. Quick question though, if you were a ghost and able to physically move chairs wouldnt you instead pick up a pen and paper and write a message from the spirit world explaining exactly what it's like, who you are, what your life was and any regrets you had in your life, make contact with loved ones or even divulge the meaning of life. Nah, you'd stack chairs wouldnt you?

Cue comment about proving that they dont exist....

Saw a programme once where scientist was working alone late in his lab, not researching, but mending his fencing épeé which was held in a vice.

He sensed a change in temperature, heard a bizarre groan/hum and then could see an apparition out of the corner of his eye that moved across the room. Then, the pointy end of his sword started vibrating, making a swishing noise and marking an 8"+ circle.

All difficult to explain without calling it paranormal.

Being a scientist, he investigated. He took the sword out of the vice and found it vibrated in some places in the room but not others. Knowing this, he pin pointed an extractor fan with a baring that had collapsed. It was setting up standing waves which accounted for the noise, temperature and oscillation, as well as causing a slight pressure on his eye causing the apparition.

I was saving the twist. It turns out that the scientist was killed in an accident with a sword two years before the interview took place.

On the issue of Most Haunted, that prick Derek Acorn got ****ed by his own production team. There's an article out there somewhere online with it all in but anyway, the historian they have on the show tipped off Derek that Richard the Lionheart was a regular visitor to the building they were at on a particular show. Derek started seeing or talking to Richard the Lionheart.

After the show went out the historian went out to the papers and told everyone Richard the Lionheart was 1000 years dead before the buildng was even built.

    Something to that effect anyway.

I used to host a paranormal radio show at university, which was fun (most nights) and there was a lot of talk from both sides of the argument as to why ghosts only seemed to start in the sort of late 1400s. As a man of science, I'm happy to hear both sides of the argument and while I'm open minded, I also have the common sense to realise when there's an explanation for something that many suggestible people would try and irrationalise.

Anyway, this is one of my theories on it.

As we all know, we are all made up of energy. It exists in different states across the spectrum within us, mostly as stored up potential energy that we release as kinetic energy, through both voluntary (such as walking, smiling, chewing etc) and involuntary (heartbeat, diaphragm, digestion) movement. However, our brain signals and patterns exist through electromagnetic energy, which dances through our neurons and axons as we think and recall memory. Now, nobody knows what happens when we die, the exact moment of death cannot be catalogued for obvious reasons, but after death, that energy has to go somewhere. Energy cannot be destroyed (as part of the law of conservation of energy, one of the key principles of the First Law of Thermodynamics), so it must be transferred somewhere else. It doesn't necessarily have to change it's state, although I suppose it's possible that it could.

Electromagnetic energy has some very strange properties, it has been known to create 'ghost' proteins and DNA strands in the human body, which causes enzymes to behave oddly. Therefore, it is not totally unbelievelable that it could happen on a larger scale, that the electromagnetic energy that constitutes our conciousness could leave some sort of imprint on an environment for a period of time. Obviously certain factors would stipulate how long the energy lingered for, such as temperature, air pressure and other various stimuli.

Now, something energy is not is sentient, which is why I've always doubted so called psychic mediums and some self proclaimed ghost hunters. But an echo or imprint of a person's energy could linger behind after death, almost like a photograph or a recording. Perhaps this thought energy could manifest itself as a sound at a certain frequency; certainly we know that it can in other walks of life, but it's highly doubtful anybody could have an intelligent conversation with said energy. Even if it sounded as such, it would purely be coincidence.

So yes, I think it's feasible that you could get some sort of remnant after death, but not a concious, sentient one, more a recording of that persons thought processes.

    What a load of bollocks.

    OLM never smiles.

Wait. Using your theory, he could be a ghost, or a poltergeist just here to cause trouble.

    You're a genius!

Energy cannot be destroyed to say ?

Well it can certainly run out.

Three words to disprove your theory.

    Batteries.

    Trak.

    Here endeth the lesson.
