I know there's a few on here who like to keep fit with regular running. I have just got back from a 10 mile jaunt in 1 hr 32, a record time for me and my mate at that distance. Going to run the Humber Bridge half marathon route next week, not run that before. Anyone else done any decent runs and times lately? I love it, I don't know what I used to do before this.
I've not done much running since the Sheffield 10k. Doing the tatton 10k in December, then training for the Yorkshire terrier (google it)
Me and my mate normally do a 10m every Saturday morning. I like to supplement it with an 8k-ish midweek. I love it, either going with my mate or on my own with my music on. Brilliant. I've not run in any official ones yet, but I do fancy it. I'll check out the ones you mentioned.
I'm not keen on the training as I find it a bit boring running on my own, but I live the race day - the atmosphere, adrenaline etc. I'm thinking of joining a running club to help improve my times. Then I'm gonna look for a 10 mile race
Understand. I know a lot of people find sustained cardio to be a bit dull, I see their point. For me, it's an opportunity to fully zone out. And I zone out a lot! Trimmed some right timber since I started, and have found it so beneficial.
I do Parkrun (5K) every Saturday morning http://www.parkrun.org.uk/hull/ (Slept in this morning though grrrr), Twice during the week I'll run upto about 13K My best times are: 5K - 19:41 10K - 44:00 13K - 59:24
Good work. I've heard about the 5k thing, East Park isn't it? Sounds good, and I like the way all your stats are recorded. I'll have to give it a go sometime.
Yep, East park, 9am every Saturday. It is really good and free, they get around 300 people every week. I like the fact you can see how much you've improved (or not) over the weeks
Good stuff, you chaps! I've got a dodgy pin (2 by-pass ops in the 80's) and I'm also in my late sixties. Running's not really on for me, but I cycle into town to go shopping (5 mls each way) and I've started walking, with a mate, once or twice a week. We're steadily upping the mileage and would like to do part of Offa's Dyke Path next year. But I envy you as you're able to run.
Just back off a 13 mile jaunt except....it wasn't. Me and my friend planned to do the Humber Bridge half marathon route, but he failed to inform me that south of the Humber we would have to run alongside some very busy dual carriageways. These, on race days, are of course closed. Or at least partially. So we decided to jack those parts in as it was dangerous, and cobble together some other route. Was a bit challenging, as neither of us know Barton very well, but we made it back. The route ended up about 11 and a half miles. It took in all the attractions of Barton (I think), and obviously twice along the bridge. 1 hour 48 I think...not bad. We ran down some street that had a pub at the end of it called 'Sloop House' or 'Sloop Inn' or whatever, and I whilst down there I imagined that that is what Britain must have looked like during the War. Bleak. Other bits were nice though, just to add some balance. By the time we got back to Hessle, one was ****ed.
I do the Manchester 10k each year, there are about 40,000 runners and the atmosphere is brilliant. I also come back home to Hull for the 10k, whose organisers think it's ok to put all the VIP's at the front, which is fine, if they didn't stop running after 3 yards, causing a bloody blockage. I've also done the Great North Run, which is also brilliant.
Does the walkington 10km still take.place? It used to be about July time I think. Used to quite enjoy that one
Yes Walkington is still on the calendar, Friday night middle of July. I ran the chester marathon a couple of weeks ago in a shade over 4 hours, last 5 miles were bloody horrendous!
I was just about to give you some props for being fast as ****. And then I realise it was all part of an elaborate joke. Well in, I was sold.
