Just a bit of fun ... Lets keep it at: 3 Keepers - because I think you have to have 3 7-8 defenders 7-9 midfield 4-6 forwards Remember you must not exceed 23 in total: It can be wholly unrealistic - name your squad then go for your starting (best XI) - lets try and exclude obvious injuries who can't hope to play - e.g Theo Walcott Mine: GK Joe Hart Fraser Forster Jack Buckland Defenders Luke Shaw Nathaniel Clyne Liam Moore Phil Jones Michael Carrick (yes I'd play him as a centre-back) Glen Johnson Micah Richards Leighton Baines Midfield Adam Lallana Steven Gerrard Jordan Henderson Tom Huddlestone Raheem Sterling Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain Ross Barkley Jack Wilshire Forwards Daniel Sturridge Andros Townsend Wayne Rooney Jay Rodriguez Starting XI Joe Hart Glen Johnson Michael Carrick Liam Moore Leighton Baines Raheem Sterling Steven Gerrard Ross Barkley Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain Wayne Rooney Daniel Sturridge
GK: Joe Hart Ben Foster Fraser Forster DEF: Luke Shaw Phil Jagielka Gary Cahill Curtis Davies Phil Jones Glen Johnson Leighton Baines MID: Adam Lallana Steven Gerrard Jordan Henderson Tom Huddlestone Raheem Sterling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Ross Barkley Jack Wilshere Adam Johnson ATT: Daniel Sturridge Rickie Lambert Wayne Rooney Jay Rodriguez Starting XI (4231): -------------Hart---------------- G.Johnson Jagielka Davies Baines --------Gerrard Wilshere---------- ---A. Johnson Barkley Lallana----- -----------Sturridge--------------
Know that you said be wholly unrealistic but you would have 2 left backs in Baines and Shaw in your starting XI? GK: Joe Hart Ben Foster Fraser Forster DEF: Luke Shaw Phil Jagielka Gary Cahill Steven Caulker Phil Jones Glen Johnson Leighton Baines MID: Adam Lallana Steven Gerrard Jordan Henderson Micheal Carrick Raheem Sterling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Ross Barkley Jack Wilshere Adam Johnson ATT: Daniel Sturridge Danny Welbeck Wayne Rooney Jay Rodriguez Starting XI (4231): -------------Hart---------------- --Johnson Jagielka Cahill Baines --------Gerrard Carrick---------- -----Lallana Rooney Wellbeck----- -----------Sturridge--------------
Get rid of Carrick for Fabian Delph This world cups about building players and a team for the future. Not taking hasbeens players with no England future after the world cup Other then Gerrard I wouldnt take any player over 30
My choices change weekly. Hart Forster Ruddy Walker Jones Cahill Jagielka Caulker/Lescott Shaw Baines Lallana Milner Ox Sterling Gerrard Barkley Barry Wilshere Osman/Henderson/Carrick Sturridge Rooney Rodriguez Carroll/Lambert
Got to say I haven't really given the World Cup a moment's thought considering how Leicester have been playing this year. I know that's probably a bit of an irritating post to put on a thread about the World Cup. Can't say I really follow who's good for England anymore. That Danish keeper who kept them almost solely at bay until the last few minutes recently looked pretty handy though.
GK's: Hart Forster Ruddy DF: Walker Richards Cahill Jagielka Davies Shaw Baines Lallana Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Sterling Gerrard Barkley Huddlestone Wilshere Henderson Sturridge Rooney Rodriguez Lambert Starting XI: Hart (GK) Walker (RB), Cahill (CB), Davies (CB), Baines (LB) Oxlade-Chamberlain (RM), Gerrard (Anchoring MF), Wilshere (Attacking MF), Lallana (LM) Rooney (CF) Sturridge (ST)
I'd take Davies ahead of Caulker or Smalling and Huddlestone is better than Cleverley, but I think there's others I'd take ahead of him.
Fosse, I agree with you on most things, but Carrick at CB is just one thing I can not get my head around!?
I like the look of this I am a big fan of no Rooney... The guy is wholly overrated in my eyes, and would never get this much attention if he wasn't English. Can't remember his last good performance in an England shirt, but, as we are England, we will pick him because the media know his name, and he may have had a good game or something sometime...
Anyway, I can't possibly pick a squad, my views will be wholly biased by the numerous bets I have on... Lallana and Barkley for £1,300. Oxlade, Caulker, Rodriguez and Sterling for £1,125. Oxlade, Sterling, Shaw and Lambert for £380. I'm confident one will come in...
Desperation to be honest Jack - severe lack of a world class cenre half - wanted someone who could play the ball out from the back because retaining possession in Brazil will be crucial - he has played there for Man United on a few occassions by the way ... have to admit I'd forgotten about Caulker, who has potentiall .. but my fear (as evidenced in the Chile friendly) is that the likes of Cahill, Lescott and Jagielka, are gonna get ripped new ones out there in Brazil ...
