suppose i might as well put this here as anywhere so sorry if it offends the football only masses and therre might be other people with the same questions. i have a freeview set top box and a freeview record to hard drive thing as well. both of them are ok on most chaneels but often rubbish on c4 and especially on c4+1. so does this mean that the c4 people are to tight to turn up there transmitter until i get changeovered or does it mean my aerial wants throwing away? ta. oh and why dont i get anything on dave? ta.

I'm not too technical but i know with ours sometimes channels come and go, gotta have a auto-retune once in a while. You should be getting dave though, dunno why you're not.

Probably a bit of both. The channels are all broadcast on 6 multiplexes, some delivering a stronger signal than others. When the analogue signal gets turned off the digital signal will be boosted.

Not knowing much about your aerial (and not being an expert) it may be at fault.

As we move to towards the switch-over, the signal on each channel should improve.

My son used to not be able to pick up several channels(on freeview), but now he can, as prideofyorkshire says, you just need to keep auto-tuning.

Believe it or not, I used to be a TV repair man(though TV's had valves in them back then).

Not sure about your situation, I'm in HU5, and I need a signal booster attached to my freeview aerial to get all of the channels. Never had problems with C4, but I had big problems getting Dave and Dave-ja-vu.

If you have Freeview though, beyond a signal booster, you've done all you can for the changeover. All the changeover is, is the turning off of the old analogue signal, which should boost the digital signal, and you should get a better pic from all of the freeview channels.

Your aerial might want fixing, but from my experience, if it was the aerial, you simply wouldn't have any pic on any channel. If you're getting all the standard channels, then you probably just need the signal boosting a bit.

Has the switchover happened? On my freeview I couldn't get 4music or t4 and had problems with the ITV channels (except 1) but seemingly they now work anytime of the day and I don't have to faff around with the cable for 10 minutes!

I don't think it has happened, fully, yet.
What you might be experiencing, is the individual providers "upping" their signal strength to the uplift station. And then upgrading the transponder(I think thats what they are called) on each individual transmitter-mast/relay-mast, hence, of an evening, we (HU9 area)have problems with the "5" network channels.
On the other hand, this might just be a load of bollocks that I was told, and, have now put on a thread ,that confirms I am a gullible fool!!!! :emoticon-0107-sweat:emoticon-0112-wonde:undecided:<whistle>:emoticon-0103-cool:

Cumbria, more specifically Whitehaven and St Bees area were the first to switch in the UK :) yes they tested it out on me and my neghbours the sheep. Basically after the switch over alll the channels are perfect quality, however you still struggle to pick up certain free view channels depending on your location. An old guy in the village who i help with technology was struggling with the change over so he asked me to help him out with it and to my amazement he could pick up different channels to me ITV 4 etc. I phoned up about this problem and it is to do with ariels and they willl gradually boots everyones signal over time. To be honest the switchover had very little impact what so ever apart from the older generations who hadnt previously had sky/freeview in every room.

Slightly irrelevent now, but as we're on about aerial upgrades and stuff it always amused me that after Channel 5 was launched loads of people had to upgrade their aerial if they wanted to receive it. We couldn't get it at ours (I was still living at home) on the main TV, but the one in my bedroom was fine. The main TV was running off the rooftop aerial and the one in my room was running off a piece of copper wire about 3 foot long that was just stuck in the back of the TV (it was the FM radio aerial from my hifi). And they were charging folk a fortune to upgrade their aerials to the superior design.
