Just a thought on the opening ceremony. The European 'anthem' was played and you could see the Europe players and fans looking at each other and thinking: "..yeah, I quite like a bit of Beethoven...." Immediately afterwards the star spangled banner was sung badly in contemporary fashion by some American superstar and all of the the American clenched fists went straight on their hearts and there was true passion and almost restrained tears from all who stood. Strikes me that the Yanks are doing it for the flag and country, whilst the Europeans are doing it for their team and team mates. I wonder which is stronger?
