For those fed up paying Sky's exorbitant (IMO) subscription fees, I thought I would share this with you. I've just renewed my BT Vision contract and I reckon I've got a cracking deal for just £10 per month. As well as all of the current Freeview channels, I can also watch the following in both SD and HD. Freeview HD BTSport 1 HD (can also watch online) BTSport 2 HD (can also watch online) ESPN HD (can also watch online) Eurosport HD Eurosport 2 HD Plus 11 other Sky entertainment channels in HD There is also the option to add Sky Sports and Movie channels but I really cannot see the point in paying anymore, movies are available on demand. Ok, so BT are still playing catch up with Sky as far as overall presentation is concerned, but I'm sure this will improve considerably. Last year was BT's debut season don't forget, (remember how poor Sky was in those early years?) and now they've secured exclusive ECL rights they're proving that they are in this for the long haul and intend to compete seriously with Sky. http://sport.bt.com/home-01363810438270 BTSport rights http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Sport#Sports_rights £10 per month? bargain IMO OTBC
It's about time someone really challenged Sky's dominance of subscription TV. We can only hope that it pushes prices down, not up.
BT will have to eventually make back that ridiculous amount of money they paid for ECL somehow. They will be charging a damn sight lot more than £10 quid in the not to distant future.
It's good for the market for there to be a second real player, I think BT sports have been very good this year in their broadcasting. However as ICHB points out BT's investment in sport is increasing as the result of there being two players has lead to the price of the contracts increasing dramatically (Champions League costing 100% more and the new Premier league deal was a 50% increase) eventually that money has to come from the customers so i doubt the good deal son BT sports will endure, especially not the free with internet deal. Id also say that whilst BT sports is a good deal is you only really want to watch a bit of football and rugby Sky has far more variety in their offering, for example I spent a lot of today watching the Cricket which is all on Sky.
I get BT Sports free with my broadband (wonder how long that will last?) But I must have only watched 2 or 3 games on BT Sports last season, if I had to pay for it, I'll probably won't. I'll probably get sky sports again in August seeing as they show Championship games as well.
As the saying goes; "make hay while the shine shines" Not only that but you have the satisfaction of knowing that you're not putting money in Murdoch's pocket either
I never really get the Murdoch thing. Quite frankly there are far worse people running lots of companies people use every day. It always strikes me that it's a very strange line in the sand.
I get people object mostly to the influence he maintains over politics and to the actions of his staff in investigating. However it's not like the serious abuses of human rights which happen all around the world creating primark clothes for example, but the more expensive companies aren't exactly more socially responsible. My point was not that Murdoch is good (although personally I'm not that fussed and think his political influence particularly is overplayed.) it's that there are so many companies with actual boarder line criminal abuses that done companies engage in. I dislike companies like Vodafone for their avoidance of tax than I do Murdoch. I understand that people don't like Murdoch but if that is your live for ethics you can probably only deal with ~50% of companies.
What you have to understand Bath is a lot of people like to say ethical things because it makes them feel good but they are very picky about it. They want Sky to fail because of Murdoch but have financial products with certain banks who are really legalised crooks, buy clothes from firms who use sweatshops, buy from Companies guilty of tax avoidance, buy products from Nestle who have been guilty of dubious practices over the years etc etc. I am no different. As far as Sky is concerned - I think they are great. There coverage of everything is great from Arts to entertainment to sport and news. I subscribe to the full package and think it is worth every penny. BT is carp. I get it free and think I'm overcharged. If they charged 50p a month I wouldn't pay it. By the way - I am a great fan of Tesco as well!!!
Goalmander is playing for Bromby against Liverpool on BT sport now, he looks pretty good and bound to score........
