My bank has just posted (i.e. cleared) a cheque today and left my account overdrawn. Wonder if they'll try and charge me? After all, it is a non-banking day - if I was waiting for a cheque to clear in my favour, it wouldn't count as one of the clearing days. Any more banking horror stories out there?
You may be compensated or have charges waived. Have a look at this an see if you fall into any of the Q & A's http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/banking/2012/06/natwest-nightmare-into-day-three
Thanks for the link. Only thing is - I'm not with any of the banks named therein. My case (should it arise) is just one of timing and bank policy on charging. The Banking Ombudsman might be a good thing to check with, should I need. Again - thanks.
My parents had an insurance policy on their mortgage should my dad be made redundant. Sadly it happened a few years ago and my parents knew they had to pay the first 6 months mortgage payments AND the insurance policy payments before being able to claim. So they informed the bank immediately and were told not to worry, in 6 months the insurance would kick in. The 6 months came and went, so they made an appointment with their local branch expecting to be told "no problems, you've paid your money, here you go!" This didn't happen. They were told, due to my dad being a contractor, they insurance was void. My parents argued they had informed the bank of this as he had been a contractor for the best part of 30 years! 17 years of payments into an insurance policy that they had no intention of honouring. They fought and fought to get THEIR money back and took the bank to the banking ombudsman who eventually announced that the bank had dropped a clanger and awarded my parents all their money back plus extra for stress caused. Banks are ****s. They bully people because they are bigger then us or so they think. The moral Of this is, if you know you're in the right, stand up to them, don't let them convince you you're wrong and you'll get what you're owed. The bank in question was Lloyds TSB. I was unsure whether to print the name of he bank in question but as it isn't slander or a fabrication, people should be aware. They'll definitely never get mine, or my families custom again.
I suspect the transaction date will be changed at some point. My student account regularly shows card transactions and cash transfers (in and out) as happening on a weekend (with the adjusted balances), but then a few days later they've all been changed to the Monday.
