Igor Belanov. I was googling the past winners. I've got to say he's faded from my memory. He played 33 times for the Soviet Union in the eighties. Going through the list I have to go back to 1962 to found a player I've never heard of: Josef Masopust. And in 1961 it was won by Omar Sívori.
Sivori played alongside John Charles at Juventus. Saw an interview with Charles and he reckoned Sivori threw a few games in the European Cup, as they won the League quite a few times together but in Europe got knocked out and shouldnt have. Not heard of Masopust though. Remember Belanov.
Pavel Nedved has always been a fave of mine. He was bloody superb. Criminally underrated in the grand scheme of things.
I disagree, he was class for both Lazio & Juve when Serie A was a good league (as someone above said). He was the great for the decent Czech side in Euro 2004. That Czech Rep v Netherlands match was superb. Still can't believe Greece won that tournament.
