http://www.thisishullandeastriding....tory-18460179-detail/story.html#axzz2Nz5c0Jz0 Obviously more houses getting built on Kingswood is no surprise (However, it does keep jobs) but the fact that three retail units are going to be built i believe is great news. It may not create many jobs but it's still a few jobs, along with fact that it brings more investment into the area. May be a tiny bit, but it's still good news for Hull.
Much bigger news for Hull just announced tonight (maybe in tomorrow's HDM if they're on the pulse?) - the new digital hub in the Fruit Market is set to go ahead and be ready by 2014/15. Someone who was at the meeting told me: £25 million cost, numerous buildings (up to 7 storeys high) and said: Think Google HQ with a Hull twist!
Is this on the river bank, directly opposite The Deep, or is it the site on Humber Street, or both? I notice a previous article mentioned it was being built on an old dry dock that needed to be cleaned out, so I assume it's on the river bank? Edit - Just found a piece on it and it's a big site that does include the old dry dock opposite The Deep... http://hulldigital.co.uk/hulls-centre-for-digital-innovation-your-opinion-needed/
Yep, that's the site - though the same person told me the dry dock won't be built on saying it's 'an open public area' - whether he means it can't be built on for that reason, or it has been decided that's what it's 'use' will be as part of this development, I'm not sure. Though he did say it wouldn't leave enough room for The River project.
That dock was worked (owned?) by Ruscador........Ruscador was one of Papa's businesses......does Papa have a stake in the C4Di development?
A real shame it doesn't leave room for the river project - almost an own goal. The digital Hull location could almost be anywhere - seems a real shame to waste 2 opportunities, particularly following the success of the deep. Great project, wrong location.
It was meant to be getting a half-decent external renovation, but then KC decided they couldn't afford 'half-decent' and instead have chosen something between 'OK-and-bodge-job', preferring to spend more on internal renovation instead. It's a shame as the original design had a decent looking glass atrium that spanned the tower and made it look like it was an actual attempt to bring it up-to-date.
I agree, I know people who have spoken to people who are high-up at The Deep and they were confident of The River project getting the go-ahead and were aiming for funding. I originally thought the digital HQ would take up the space next to The River and/or on the old Bonus Electrical site. Though from the noises coming from the C4Di camp, they have the funding in place and it will not only bring about new jobs to the area, but it will add something impressive to Hull's City-scape. So I imagine most have decided there is no point in holding it up, waiting to see if The River gets funding, as jobs are needed now. Are there any other sites The River could be built on? Perhaps the site where The Boom was meant to be built, giving the new bridge a purpose?
I would have put the digital hull project the other side near the Premier inn and kept the current location as the river project. It just makes sense for the deep and the river thing to be next door to each other. Plus the marina, with all the ideas circulating seems like it could be a real tourism hotspot.
I'm not sure if it's changed, but the plans for the digital hub also included a tropical river visitor centre in the plans. Maybe they're already working together?
Maybe, though above Dazzar states if the digital hub proceeds, there won't be room for the river project.
The bloke who told me about it was at Hull Digital's meeting at Fudge last night - he told me there will be no room for The River, as that was one of my first questions. He may be wrong, but seemed sure of it.
