Realistically, what do people expect Nuno's baseline to be? Personally I will be more than happy if he points us in the right direction and gives us a base to build off of, whether that base be something Nuno builds off of himself or somebody else uses a couple of seasons down the line - or, to put it another way, if Nuno's baseline is Martin Jol that is more than enough for me Just as long as he isn't replaced by El Hijo del Juando Ramos...
I feel like expectations are quite low, based on the general down feeling after the season we just had, and so many people finding Nuno an underwhelming appointment. So much depends on transfer activity too. Last time out we finished 5 points off 4th spot - not an insurmountable difference to make up especially considering some of the circumstances in which we dropped points last season - and made a cup final which we only lost by 1 goal to the best team in the country, having sacked our manager and put a 29 year old with no real managerial experience in charge of the team less than a week beforehand. I’m not trying to spin what was a very disappointing season into some sort of success but it can always be worse. Ultimately the PL is the key barometer and I’d want to see him close that gap to the top 4 and at the very least secure EL football via league position. Obviously the end goal is CL football but it’s hard to know where he lies compared to the other contenders when the transfer circus has barely begun. If we keep Kane then the expectations are very different to if we sell him. With Kane, CL has to be the benchmark. If we sell then it’s EL. Away from the league I’d love more strong domestic cup runs and I’d like to see him use the Conference League to blood young players, at least to begin with. If you offered me top 6 and a domestic trophy, or straight top 4, from Nuno’s first season I’d bite your hand off right now for either, tbh. Whether either is realistic depends on transfer activity.
If they’re asking anything more than top 6 then I feel sorry for him as without Kane, that is going to be a massive challenge considering Leicester look strong as well as the usual suspects.
Depending on incomings and outgoings, I'd like to think a top six finish and looking to win the ECL would be seen as fair expectation, all whilst playing at least a semi decent brand of football. I don't expect prime Poch or prime 'Arry football but just something resembling a football team who can attack and defend accordingly would be great.
Nuno’s staff confirmed: Football Manager players will likely know of Cathro due to his technical coaching rating, lol.
One titbit that The Pathetic have brought up, which is reason to be concerned: they claim the only reason Gattuso was on Paratici's radar is because Mendes gave him a call, no doubt with a subtle hint that good things could happen in regards to our transfer business If true (and, again, look at the source...) that's not a good look
They've all worked with him at several clubs. Barbosa's his goalkeeping coach, Dias is his fitness coach and Cathro is his assistant. Not sure how a Scotsman jumped from Dundee to Portugal, though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Cathro Probably an interesting story in there, somewhere. His links with Ryan Gauld might be worth noting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Gauld Once hyped as The Scottish Messi, his career went off the rails for a bit, but he's back on now. Had a very good couple of seasons in Portugal and has a lot of offers to bigger clubs, as he's on a free. A lot of his countrymen felt that he should've been involved in the Euros.
Nah, it’s primarily because you’re a **** manager, mate. And it weren’t a fight either, if it were, you’d have been laid out.
I don't think that any of our fans would hold his spat with Jordan against him. Jordan certainly wouldn't. He made some questionable comments in the past and his record shows he's volatile and not very good. There's also the links to an agent, but...
