I agree with you there. Nice guy but bang average manager and the links with Mendes alone already are red flags.

If true (big chance it’s the usual media bollox) then it’s a damning insight into how the club is conducting this managerial search. If Nuno was the preferred choice then they should have gone after him as soon as he was available.

Can you think of any reason all the others have turned you down?

    Poor contract offered
Lack of football ambition shown by Levy
There must be something because you are quite a big club (with a lovely new stadium) and some of those chosen should be chuffed to be linked with you.

Who has actually turned down an offer from Spurs?

If the press are to believed we have been turned down by-

Nagelsman for Bayern - No Contest
    Conte - Differing philosophies
Lopetegui - Opted to stay where he is comfortable in Spain

We didn't pursue Poch due to the cost of extracting him from a lucrative contract at PSG and we withdrew from appointing Fonseca and Gattuso.

I think everyone here accepts that Bruno is decent penalty taker - it's the number of opportunities that he gets to take them that that causes the rancour!

Two of them aren't even supposed to be replacing Dembele, that's the issue

It also has to be said that, realistically, Hojbjerg is less a DM and more an upgrade on Sissoko as he has the workrate and then some, but his passing and defensive discipline are both markedly better than Sissoko's ever were (in other words, shouldn't we get Napoli on the blower and see if they're still interested?)

Got no probs with Gerrard joining.

Don’t really buy this, he’s only using us to join Liverpool theory. Yeah it’s his boyhood club so of course he will always be up for that post depending on timing of course. He’s not joining us then leaving for Pool if they need a manager in a year or two, not happening.

Did we train Poch for PSG? He had affiliation with them whilst he was with us, he played for them.

Gerrard is a winner, great mentality, top pro and you can tell he has something about him, something I don’t and have not seen in other young managers like Lampard and Rooney.

I’m up for giving this young up and coming English manager my backing, if he joins.

Alan Shearer won more league titles as a player than Steven Gerrard

    Just saying...

    and?

Alan Shearer was a **** manager and showed zero signs in any part of his managerial stint to suggest he had something about him, unlike Gerrard.

Not sure Brian Clough in his prime could have saved Newcastle that season.

Gerrard won the title in a two-team league where he only had to concern himself about four games in the season, and with Celtic so crap last season the coin flip went in his favour

Realistically we need to be looking at managers who don't come from leagues where they can phone in 90% of their league games because the assumption is they'll win anyway, so we should probably ignore any Porto, Benfica or Sporting coaches for that same reason

of those three, I’d take Potter as best of a bad bunch, I also prefer Gerrard over Nuno. It’s not a great list though is it.

Want Ten Hag in an ideal world. He ticks all the boxes

Something else to consider: I'm going to hazard a guess that Jorge Mendes isn't exactly fond of us right now, as in the last eighteen months we've loaned in two of his assets and arguably lowered the value of both of them

Not exactly the best start to building a relationship with him, is it?

Well at least Doherty may look a decent player next season. Silver lining and all that…

Safe to say it’s an extremely underwhelming appointment though, especially having waited for so damn long.

Yes not the appointment I wanted, but he knows the league, and he left his last club in a better position than they were when he joined. He appears a bit one dimensional to me but he gets the best out of his players in the main.

Yeah I just don’t enjoy watching Wolves one bit and he spent a hell of a lot of dough there so it’s not as if he’d been restricted by poor or average players. He’s not a bad manager by any means, just not someone who I think will do much here, nor will get the crowd off their seats.

Think we’re making a huge mistake not going for and getting Potter. I can see him getting a big job sooner or later.

After every u-turn we’ve already witnessed, it’s probably safer to say Nuno won’t be our new manager <laugh>

in all seriousness though, this is really disappointing, underwhelming and uninspiring.

whilst we’ll all get behind any new manager, if we aren’t seeing decent performances very early into the season (or we hit an early dip) I think things will turn hostile very quickly. I think there’s gonna be a section of fans that will continue to let their feelings about Levy known regardless, but this could gather at quite a pace if things don’t start well.

After the managerial fiasco, and another potentially uninspiring transfer window ahead, I’m not confident of a positive outcome to be honest.
