So nunez signs a new contract... It would be interesting to know what kinda wage he is getting seeings he is pushing for the first team. Anyway, what i find more interesting is that he has signed for a 4 year deal. Someone that hasnt 'massively' impressed gets a contract that long when some one else who has impressed doesnt. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11715_7235688,00.html Lets just hope clayton, howson and snoddy are the next ones to sign.
Interesting? It is all about who is the cheapest. Cheaper to sign deals with youngsters and fringe players than star performers. Under this regime, not that surprising or interesting.
Five goals in five starts (10 apps), many of which were out of position. I don't think he's average. Lazy maybe.
I thought he had signed a one year extension only keeping him at ER til 2015. Apparantly SG was saying how unlucky Nunez was not to be playing, but with the formation that they are currently playing, there is no space for him....
With his skills & ability, SG will find a spot for him, even if he becomes an impact sub for a while. 3 workers in midfield, & then Nunez in the hole behind 2 strikers. Sounds good to me.
i think snoddy would be better there though if we were playing 3 CMs. The thing is, nunez is a good player but he is not quite good enough to take anyone's position of them (at the moment anyway)
Interesting point Josh. I think it depends on the formation. If we need our 2nd CM to do some defending as well as supporting the front two, then Howson wins that discussion everytime. However, if we want a more attacking CM sitting behind the front two & therefore not being required to do much defending, Nunez' attacking skills are better than Howson's. Put it another way, we're 2-1 down with 10 minutes to go & we need more of a threat from midfield. We sacrifice someone, who do we bring on Howson or Nunez as the new attacking threat?
I dont think Howson could do the holding roll. He's a very attacking mid & I would even drop him for Brown if that was the only position we could utilise him in
Agree entirely Bucks. If we needed a CM to sit behind & support 2 strikers, I would opt for Nunez. This would then leave Clayton, Brown, & an other as a midfield 3. Not sure who best to have as the third midfielder; Snoddy, Howson, or who?
I think if you play 3 centre mids Snod would have to sit behind the front two, so where that leaves Nunez would be super sub still!
Not sure about that one Bucks. I still see Snoddy & Sam as wide players who play at their best when they cut in from the wing (as well as swapping wings on a regular basis)
Snod can play behind the two strikers & I think it maybe worth a go at some point. He's clever & most his goals last season came from cutting in & putting himself in that little hole. Agree though, he is probably better on the wing & now with Gradel gone I think it will add a little more balance with one out & out winger
If we are looking for a left wing player, then as I have already suggested Kris Commons appears to be on his way out of Celtic, I'd go for him quickly. As for Nunez, doesn't impress me so I'm not excited about this contract agreement.
I don´t rate Nunez more than Howson at all. Howson´s first touch is fantastic, and he´s so composed on the ball. He´s unselfish, whereas Nunez shoots all the time. He´s easily a better player, with his all round game much better.
