Probably just another rubbish transfer rumour but as we are not hearing much regarding our much needed striker reinforcements I thought I'd post this one:

New target: Magpies have enquired about Loic Remy’s replacement

Newcastle have contacted AS Monaco about the availability of French striker Emmanuel Riviere.

The 24-year-old, who is believed to be keen on a move to Arsenal, has been identified as a potential replacement for Loic Remy.

Riviere, a versatile striker in the Remy and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang mould, can play in the lead striker role and operate on the wings.

He is a French youth international and currently playing part of the France under-21 team.

He started his professional career at Saint-Étienne, before joining Moussa Sissoko’s old employers Toulouse for €6 million in July 2011. After a series of impressive displays, he moved to Monaco for €4 million in January last year.

He has scored 14 goals in 40 games for the Ligue 1 club.

If the press were correct in Lasogga and Lacazette being our first choices then we may be lowering our sights, now that they are not an option.

Out of all of them, Lacazette is my favourite by miles. A "this'll do" signing isn't going to be good for the club in the long-term, and could end up costing us more than if we actually competed for the good players now, wish the board realised that.

Although, to be fair, the board tend to sign nobody rather than get a "this'll do" signing <wah>

We can now cross Jordan Rhodes of any interested list as he's just signed a 5 year contract at Blackburn.

Looks like this rumour may be true. 45 goals in 157 games - not the worst, nor the most prolific. Best thing about his youtube clips - he celebrates like Lomana LuaLua.

Newcastle “confident” of Emmanuel Rivière signing according to L’Equipe

According to our colleagues at L’Equipe, Newcastle United are confident about signing Emmanuel Rivière from AS Monaco.

They are actively negotiating with the Principality side at present and want this deal complete imminently.

Neither fee not contract negotiations are complete, but the paper maintains that Newcastle are confident a deal will be reached.

If we do sign him then it doesn't change the fact that we still need a proven goalscorer.

Remy or Ba are both proven and know the club so would be right at the top of my list.

Whether the club has the ambition to try sign 2 strikers is questionable though.

Agreed. I'd take goals over sentiment to be fair.
Welcome to the forum by the way. :)

We still have Cisse at the club. I seriously think that with the acquisition of Colback, SDJ and Cabella we can give this lad some real service. We still need another striker though I will admit that and Remy or this Riviere fella would do nicely, as would Ba.

I'm starting to get quite excited at our prospects for next season now.

If we can get another 2 or 3 players in we'll be in a fantastic position I think, far far better than at any point in recent history going into the start of a new season.

Who is Cisse? Not that flop from last season! You mean we haven't got rid?!

How long is Cisse out for?
