FA investigate Nigel Pearson referee comments in the wake of Bristol City's defeat to QPR Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson was scathing of match official Andy Davies in the wake of the Robins loss The Football Association are reviewing comments made by Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson during his post-match press conference on December 30 after Bristol City had been beaten 2-1 by QPR. Pearson was heavily critical of referee Andy Davies after City's defeat, claiming Alex Scott was denied a clear first-half penalty which would have put the Robins 2-0 up, and then showed irritation over further decisions including the awarding of a corner that led to QPR's injury-time winner. Pearson's criticism of match officials has largely been minimal throughout his 11 months at Ashton Gate but in each of his three post-game interviews with Sky Sports, BBC Radio Bristol and then the written press he sought to highlight the failings of the referee. The 58-year-old was also seen having an intense word in Davies' ear as he left the pitch at the conclusion of the game before exiting down the tunnel towards the changing room. "We came across a strong team and some dodgy refereeing. We should’ve had another penalty. The decisions were awful and I’ve told him that," Pearson said. "I hope the next time we see him he’s on the park because that’s where he should be. "How the assistant didn’t see it (the Scott penalty call). Look, we had it all on playing against 11 when we had 10 but the decisions just continued to be awful. It was a terrible performance by them (the officials). "I’m not someone who moans a lot but let me tell you, that was awful today, and I told him as well." If the FA decide to charge Pearson under Rule E3, which surrounds comments that may be deemed "threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting", the City manager could face a fine. City midfielder Andy King was sent-off in the second half against QPR for two bookable offences, the first caution a result of his complaints after Cam Pring fouled QPR midfielder Luke Amos for a penalty in first-half stoppage time. In his apology to City fans, King drew attention to his anger over the decision-making in the game, and several Robins teammates showed their exasperation on the field during the Championship contest. The FA are also understood to be looking into reports of two separate incidents of bottle throwing from supporters at Ashton Gate. The first occurred on December 18, during the 3-2 defeat to Huddersfield, when a supporter under the age of 16 was ejected after throwing at least one plastic bottle onto the field in the direction of visiting forward Sorba Thomas. On that occasion, City issued a statement soon after full-time condemning the incident, while the club have reviewed internal CCTV to see if further action needs to be taken against any other fans involved. During the QPR match 12 days later, striker Charlie Austin's celebration and goading of home fans in the South Stand and the corner where it meets the Dolman Stand also led to reports of projectiles thrown onto the field. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/nigel-pearson-referee-comments-qpr-6446963
nowadays bog rolls are so valuable dont never see them ...lol goalies used to do a roaring trade selling them on ....!!!
Charlie Austin should be charged for inciting the crowd after his goal celebration, another poor decision by the official who should have booked him
If they are investigating NPs comments then they should also investigate the referee’s performance. Shocking.
They should be investigating the ref and give him corrective/refresher training on how to read a game. He was fu**in awful!
Whilst I completely agree there is no excuse for throwing things onto the pitch, all that will achieve is getting the club fines and sanctions, mindless
I saw this coming from all the way over here and believe me I think they will come down hard on us. Without any doubt it was the worst refereeing display that I have ever seen and it bordered on some accounts to be a game where you may even be tempted to question impartiality. So many decisions went against us I was gasping for air wondering what was actually happening out there on the pitch and asking if the referee had some loose connection to QPR. All referees are scrutinised by their bosses and if someone at the F.A. didn't smell a rat on this occasion then they aren't paying due attention to the bad apples in their cart. Andy Davies should never be allowed to officiate again at this level because undoubtedly his bad decisions led to our defeat and if the authorities can't accept that then the game is doomed beyond redemption. Refereeing is not an easy job as I well know and I gave it up due to the antics of players and managers alike which makes me annoyed at Pearson's post match antics even though in my mind he truly had every right given the appalling circumstances. If you had gathered 1,000 football brains to watch this game then I figure the vast majority would come up with questions about the decisions made by Davies and their affect on the result. Regrettably the F.A. will never come out and criticize a referee in public because it spoils the brand image but I would expect that all the decisions made by Davies would have been overturned by VAR had it been available. I have a problem with NP's reaction but I feel that on this occasion I think he felt that if nothing was said about what happened then the score would have just been accepted without any blame being attributed to the bloke ion the middle. All we ask for is consistency in officiating but this was beyond belief and my hope is that the league at least have some balls to stand up to say we deserved better and we get an apology but then again perhaps I should pay more attention to the porker that just flew past my window. I would also suggest that the investigation as to what happened at the match should focus on the referee and not Nigel Pearson.
I hope for balance they take into consideration his usual reaction to bad refereeing decisions, his usual response is it’s a difficult job everyone makes mistakes, and refuses to blame them, instead saying we should focus on our performance, and highlighting opportunities we’ve missed during the game and refusing to blame our downfall on decisions that go against us, this example though was, I have to say, the worst example of refereeing I think I’ve ever seen. Pretty much every decision he got wrong. If as you say games are scrutinised they should weigh NP’s comments against the level of refereeing in the game. I won’t hold my breath though.
I think we could come out of this with trouble ahead with the authorities. It's sad that we may have to bite the bullet and the crowd issues may be factor.
I assume the "NP" investigation will raise its head should the fa decide to pursue Monday or Tuesday? there was a lot of third party traffic regarding the way this game referee'd By QPR " who benefitted from it" and media that gave it stick! To be honest they are between a rock and a hard place .. Take action as opposed to a warning and they condone all the actions of the referee! Give a warning to be careful in future and follow any channels of complaint! and they support the ref was cr#* ... maybe just better let it lie and have a behind scenes with ref and his association!
