Outstanding find Roller. Remember the one when Terry marches up to the wall as if he's pacing out ten yards for the ref, the wall parts to let him through and Gerry just passes the ball through to him?
This whole programme is addictive to old geezers like me, couple of nice clips of Stan as well. I know players are fitter, probably technically better on average and the whole game is faster, but the early 70s was when I fell in love with the game and QPR. Everything just seemed more fun and less tense. Plus my obsession was confined to actually going to the games, whereas nowadays with wall to wall media coverage I don't have the strength to resist. I am going to go cold turkey in the international break, confine my QPR addiction to old You tube clips....

Stanley, I certainly couldn’t disagree that the game was more fun in those days. You only have to watch part of that clip to see that. I’ve said before on this forum that Venables’ free kicks were a major part in me becoming a Rangers’ supporter. He was a great innovator, and he found a great ally in Gerry Francis. But yes, football was also more loveable in those days. You only had to watch your namesake making our opponents looking like mugs to smile. I do feel sorry for the modern day fan who missed out on those glory days, not only of QPR, but of football as a whole.

Not only did they miss out on Stan Bowles, but Tony Currie, Frank Worthington and so many more. Worthington was always a favourite of mine. His pre-match warm up seemed to consist of kicking the ball with his right foot wrapped around behind his left foot, the ball arrowing towards the top corner of the goal. He was a truly magnificent player. Our matches against Leicester were always great occasions, even though their goalkeeper, Mark Wallington, always played out of his skin against us.

Winning was a bonus in those days, not the minimum requirement. I doubt that we will ever return to those days, but they had a lot going for them. The fun has gone, but the passion lives on.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching that - and Brian Moore was one of my favourite commentators. Totally agree with the comments above - wonderful memories and what a fantastic Rodney Marsh hat-trick :)

Was there ever a better crosser of the ball than Dave Thomas? I remember Malcolm McDonald scoring five goals for England against Cyprus if I remember correctly and DT was the 'supplier' of four of them. He had an awesome shot on him as well...
