Doncaster Rovers winger/midfielder Kyle Bennett is being linked with a move to Portsmouth. The League Two side under new manager Paul Cook are reportedly ready to make a move for Bennett who is out of contract at the Keepmoat this summer. The 24-year-old, who arrived at the Keepmoat in 2011, enjoyed his best season with the club this season. Bennett scored 8 goals in 50 appearances including the clubs goal of the season in the game at Sheffield United. He has made 131 appearances in total scoring 16 times. Apparently, Pompey are also interested in signing 26 year old midfielder Jimmy Ryan from Paul Cook's old club Chesterfield. He is also out of contract, and available on a free transfer.
I'd imagine quite a few of PCs old squad would be happy to follow him. Just hoping Mitchell, their head scout, also follows now that Melville has left. Westcarr might find himself transfer listed or out on loan. The Cookie Monsta got rid of him 3 weeks after taking over at Chesterfield.
I do hope that he gets some money to improve your squad. Latterly, when Pompey's manager has asked the board for a decent transfer, the answer has been, "of course, stick this on your arm"...
Using this as generic transfer thread. Pompey have confirmed the release nine players. Dan Butler, Ben Chorley, Tom Craddock, Joe Devera, Danny East, Wes Fogden, Nicky Shorey, Bradley Tarbuck and Ryan Taylor have all been let go while Adam Webster has been offered a new contract and Ben Close has had his renewed for another year. I'm dissapointed to lose Butler and Taylor.
Agree MAJR. Shame to lose Ryan Taylor who has just had an excellent season. Good foil for Matt Tubbs as well. Dan Butler has a lovely left foot, but totally lacked any consistency. Hope he makes it elsewhere.
Hear hear for Taylor - I think he was worth keeping - I really liked the guys work ethic but we must trust the new broom to build what he sees as his team. Fairly sure Fogden was injury based as he's a good player - someone will snap him up.
Only confirming what was coming as they were all out of contract. It will be interesting how much of the perceived "deadwood" he can manoeuvre through the exit door. Or perhaps there will be a radical change in their attitude and performance in pre-season training. Hope PC gets a good scouting system going over London to scoop up the talent that is missed by the big London clubs as it is a far bigger catchment area than the South Coast and surely within range. As he is likely to have plenty of links in the North, perhaps a jewel of a player from that part of the world as well.
According to The News, Kyle Bennett is on the verge of signing for Pompey. Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov had been keen to keep the 24-year-old at the League One club. Pompey are also reported to be monitoring Enda Stevens, a 24 year old, 6' tall left-back who made 32 appearances for Doncaster this term on loan from Aston Villa.
